Question about Performing Logic Songs Live

Hi, I've been writing tracks in Logic Pro for quite a while now and am interested in playing them live. From what I gather from reading these boards, my best option seems to be bouncing individual tracks for use as loops in Ableton live, then use some kind of DAW like the APC 40 or the Ni Machine. This looks like the most suitable and fun option for the kind of things I write.

Am I right in thinking this? What would you guys recommend for software and hardware?

Well it depends on exactly what you want to do?
If you want to trigger the different audio/midi files live, then Ableton + and APC40/20/Launchpad would be what you want. Quite pricey tho.
If you're just looking to play your songs and mix in occasional loops and FXs you could just get Traktor Pro and mix your songs. A lot cheaper!

Have you tried messing about with mainstage? It comes bundled with logic studio.

ed Solo performs with logic, controllers, and a timecode vinyl loop system... badass shit to watch...

Link mixer faders up + effects, bounce your uneffected basslines/drums/ect to audio, then link them to there designated mixer channels, by doing so itll be alot easier to transition from song to song by triggering the stems as audio/samples...

Making any kinda sense? Basically the same way you use FL live...

would be quite hard as with any other daw. get a xone? or just assign certain stems to certain faders on your mixer or sampler you are using.

That Ed Solo stuff is cool but not really what I want.

I guess I am looking for a DAW which can control the triggering of audio and midi loops, and from the trial of ableton it seems very good, and I think I will get it. The APC 40 does seem like a very expensive, high range option, I'm just wondering if there's any cheaper alternatives you guys would recommend?

EDIT: Actually, it's not to exy if I'm looking at both it and Ableton Live as a pair, but still, any better gear out these days?

there are plenty of controllers out there but i'd still probably have an apc40 as my first choice for controlling ableton.

your paying too much attention to the scratching because its so eye-catching... Look at how Ed is operating to zero-8 though, he has assigned 2 different faders/tracks with two seperate effects chains for bass, his drums all go to a common drum fader w/ an effects chain, ect...

You then load all the stems youll want to play in your set, and trigger them as you would any other samples, routing them to there appropriate mixer tracks while you do...

Its actually altogether similar to ableton, except you would build transitions by working down logics arrangement rather then using 2 views like you do in Ableton... the DJing and KP work is just icing on top the cake on an already amazing live-stem-triggering session, I wish they had videos showing them transitioning from track to track that werent clipped out camera phone footage shot from battlejam nights, you would see more of how he controls things as a set rather then just inside the individual tracks that the sets are made up of...

i get if you want ableton, just saying, I didnt want you to dwell on the scratching and miss the true part of that video...

Launchpad? $120
APC20.. about the same
touchOSC is great.. even if just on a touch or iphone.
even a midi keyboard
padKontrol
LPD8
nanapad.. (is that what its called?.. the little korg pad thing)
trigger finger.. (I'm pretty sure thats what its call.. the maudio pad controller)
I'm sure some of those even come with lite versions of Ableton, which might be enough to do what you want to do.. not totally sure tho.
I started with live lite 7 (APC Edition).. and it was enough for me to start on.

I've decided to go with the apc 40 and ableton live, as I've watched a lot of videos online and it looks most suited and like I'd have the most fun. My question now is what would the best way to do this be? Rewire Logic into Live, or vice versa? Or bounce tracks down from logic to use as loops in ableton? Something else?

probably the simplest option, have a look at some of tom cosms videos about playing live with stems like that.
