i know me n some of the production forum guys have batted this idea around before but the manager of RWD.Fm, the streaming station im on, is bringing it to fruition, and has asked me to put out a call for DJ's on here, as more of you know me then him, lol.

Essentially, we're organizing battle sets amongst DJ's, which will be broadcast on RWD.FM during a primetime slot, with the aid of one of our MC's. We would like to get both unaffiliated DJ's as well as DJ's who operate under the direction of our competitor stations and promotional agencies. All is in good fun, we will tolerate no bad attitudes, sore losers, ect.

No genre restrictions, both established artists and lesser-known dwellers of the underground welcome. We wont favor anyone based on rep, we will only be judging on skill in the mix.

Online Radio DJ Battles, how to enter, and what youll be doing :

Each contestant much submit a 30 minute mix as a demo for quality control purposes. We will review these mixes and if we feel you are up to snuff, we'll roster you into a battle. NO GENRE RESTRICTIONS, all styles of music welcome, from hardstyle to ambient.
Each contestant will be placed into groups of 4 DJ's, which will be suitable for each others style.
Once rostered into a battle, each contestant will be asked to submit a 30 minute mix specifically for the battle. This mix should contain humorous par's at the expense of your opponents, ect.
Battles will be broadcast on RWD.FM with the assistance of one of our staff MC's to host the show. during this time, any links you would like promoted, can be shouted out on air.
Winners advance to higher rounds in the bracket and eventually a champion is declared.

We are also looking for unbiased, quality-driven judges... Judges must have no previous affiliations with the contestants, and be able to provide their ears for the length of a battle. Judges will be assigned to battles in a fair manner, with prevention of bias in mind.

If your interested in entering, please contact either myself or Wabberjocky (RWDFM station manager) using the details provided below. Please include your demo mix, a brief personal bio, and any affiliations you may have. Be sure the mix has a clear way to contact you in its filename, and please, make sure it is something you check frequently, no dead emails.

Damn this sounds nice! Don't have any decks yet though, which I am working on getting (hehe).
I would like to now when the battle is held though, and what criterias you put on the judges?

Peace

Do you mean what will be judging the winners based on, or what do you need to do to be a judge?

judges will be looking for:
Basic djing skills... solid transitioning, good matching where applicable, phrasing, quality of selection, interesting DJ-tricks (i.e., double drops, beat juggles and fader mashing, creative scratching, stutters and clever cueing, ect.) Negative points : trainwrecks, off phrasing, erroneous stuff in general...
Creative use of tunes against your opponents... credit will be given if you select tunes which could be interpreted as jabs at your opponent, ect...
Uniqueness of style and variety of your selection
Personal preferences and tastes in music

if your asking what you have to do to be a judge... All judges must be unbiased and musically educated. We are looking for judges with their own solid skillsets which will allow them to properly analyze peoples mixing... Basically, we want judges who are able to distinguish between an off mix and a proper one... Also, the judges must bear no affiliation with any of the competitors, as in, cant be on record labels/radio stations/promotional rosters/ect. with the DJ's participating.. Ideally, we will be pairing judges with sets of DJ's who they have never had any previous contact with, so no bias can be drawn. Above all else though, judges will be selected based on their own skillsets which will make them qualified to distinguish the good and the bad.

Wub, the deadline for demo submissions is june 6th, which is about 2 weeks away. After we get all the entry's in, we will begin scheduling the bracket, with the first battles starting the following week. From there, its all a matter of how many entries we receive to determine how long it will take us to cycle through the entire competition... All competitors will be told their scheduled battle timeslot at least a week in advance, to allow plenty of time for promotion and preperation.

so the minimum duration of a mix should be 30 minutes? or can it possibly be longer but not to long say 45 minutes? and the champion would be rewarded a spot on rwd? sorry but I don't think you have wrote that in your first post. I would also like to find out who the competition is so I can come up with some bars or puns to throw in there so inappropriate language won't count as negative points or you guys don't care?

The champion gets bare bragging rights, its for the fun of it, some laughs, and the chance for us to feature some guest mixes from good people.

There are timeslots available though if anyone has the dedication to maintain one every week, we're slowly beginning to transition to full 24 hour broadcasting, and will be adding a new batch of available slots sometime in the next few weeks... totally seperate matter from the battles though.

The duration of the battle mixes would be strict because we maintain a tight show schedule, so there isnt any room for overrunning, if we were to cut into someones regularly scheduled timeslot, itd be a bit rude, know what I mean?

oh, if one were to win and have the time available weekly would he/she possibly fill in that slot?

and yea man I know what you mean, if I were to turn in a mix I would definitely have it 30 minutes long no shorter/no longer
