So I bought a midi keyboard... [Electrostep]

Post by Mike Huber » Wed Jun 08, 2011 5:36 am

I'm still learning how to link Massive more efficiently to my keyboard, and I'm experimenting with a lot of different controls and modulations. I've also recently learned how to glide notes within massive, which has changed everything about how I make my sounds. This is something I threw together fairly quick with my keyboard and a bass synth that I had already made. I just experimented a little bit with controlling different parameters in Massive with pitch, velocity, attack, and duration of notes played on the keyboard. I haven't gone very indepth with the modulations yet, as I haven't had time to really tweak things to the way I want them, but this is the start of what I've figured out so far. This track isn't mastered yet, so bare with me on the mix. I also plan on playing around with the bassline a lot more. I had just recorded a single track of me playing my keyboard through Massive, but then I figured out how to record notes to the piano roll in FL Studio, instead of just recording it as a sample. I plan on redoing the whole bass track in the piano roll so I can change it up. Any feedback would be appreciated, as this is a track that I am VERY excited about, and cannot wait to finish.

I like the bass and I like the sounds a lot, but I would suggest using different samples. The ones you are using sound a little weak and I think you might need to beef up your kick and snare. I said this in another post, but I recently got the Vengeance Essential Clubsounds Vol. 3 sample pack and I really like the choice in snares and kicks they have. To me what can make or break a song are the drums. You have the bass down, now just try and find some beefier samples. Thats my 2 cents.

I'm glad you like it :) Yeah, my drums are lacking at the moment because I haven't layered them or really EQ'd them properly. I threw a limiter on my master so I could export a preview for feedback. Nothing is really mastered correctly at all yet. I'm still working on getting a good snare sound, as I can't really seem to get the right frequency range without causing some clipping. And by the way, I also have VEC volumes 1 - 3 :)

I plan on playing around with this track a lot in the next few days. I already have a long list of things I want to change and add ;)

Thanks for the feedback on the samples, I wasn't thinking of those.
