i don't know why everyones bashing dell, i've had a few over the years and recommended them to family and friends. never had any problems!
the laptop looks good, latest generation sandy bridge cpu. only thing i'd say is that a 14 inch screen may be a little small, but this is down to personal preference. i use a 15, not much in it, but i find mine a bit small when i use cubase and have lots of windows to arrange.

this is bad information, where did you hear they use the cheapest parts? my laptops about 3 years old and going strong. has a western digital hard drive, intel cpu, nvidia graphics card. these are all branded parts and well known. the only bad thing i can say about dell is that they are hard to upgrade due to using different fittings on some of their parts. this is irrelevant to laptops as they're not usually upgradeable much anyhow.

was this a geforce 8400m? if so, the problem wasn't with dell, it was a problem with nvidia's manufacturing process. several lines of laptops had this problem, i was lucky as i have an 8600m which isn't attached to the motherboard. but in your case, its soldered on and the whole motherboard had to be replaced.
