Bunch of assholes, destroying other peoples property that they worked hard for, all because the local team lost in a sports game.

man's absolutely right.
if i'm pissed at the establishment, why would i want to smash my neighbors car, i mean he's just like me isn't he? and wouldnt the people i'm fed up with just sit there and laugh while we fight amongst each other and then when the situation has calmed down profits rise as everyone has to buy new shit, the same shit they smashed a few weeks before.
edit: sports team? tbh i dont know why people in vancouver are rioting anyway, if it's because a sports team lost then i'll lose my faith in humanity.

No, thats really not it. As I put in the Stanley Cup thread (and after thinking about it in more of a sober mindset), yes, the game had a lot to do with it in the fact that there was 100 000 people chillin in downtown. But do you really think all 100 000 of the people in the streets gave a fuck about the game? No. There were people there trying to enjoy the atmosphere, and there were people there just to start shit, regardless of what happened. Vancouver has had a lot of angst growing over the last few years, this was just where it happened to blow up.
Not to standup for them or anything, but there is a lot more to it than just losing a game. Their fans do get pretty butthurt though

you lot have obviously never seen it kick off at west ham millwall, faith in humanity was lost in the 70s sometime, probably in bermondsey.
shame to see shit like this still goes on.
i knew it did in south american countrys quite bad, but canada? for shame.

the phrase is “violence begets violence”. although he was doing a fine deed, he shouldn’t have picked up that stick and went after that guy straight into the crowd… he elevated that situation to a physical one, and while they were inexcusably WRONG WRONG WRONG… he quite literally started it.

the strange thing is, is that even though he got beaten, the crowd pretty much dispersed after that. regardless of his means and the consequences, he was successful.

No. The literal location is where it happened to blow up. Look at this. These "anarchists" (who definitely aren't anarchists, more just punk kids who are mad about a shit ton of venues that got shut down for olympic housing) were doing the same thing before the 2010 Olympics went on. Gangs are pretty big in Vancouver, its not like there wouldn't be clashes. Plus everyone had to be obnxiously drunk off their asses.
If they had won, it would have gone they same way I bet.

right, but the hockey game drew the crowds out into the street. and i'm sure the emotions were running high as well.
where were the police, by the way? usually sporting events in the US/UK are swarmed with police
