Every now and then lineups come along that hit a movement dead on the cusp. For instance the return of Todd Edwards for the first ever Numbers night in Room One and the launch of Elevator Music Vol 1 in Room Three back in January of 2010 hinted at a fresh direction for dubstep influenced music; a bastardized, indulgence at a much housier tempo that has come to extreme prevalence in the months that followed. Since then there’s been a fragmentation that has split the music down the middle. Whilst the mainstream has embraced one facet of dubstep, clutching it to its Philharmonic bosom, some artists have chosen to go in harder, delve even deeper into the possibilities and explore the full limits of 140bpm music, whilst others have made a point of slowing their work, feeding off classic house influences and intertwining them with the attitude and sound palette they were once besotted with.

Hessle Audio has been one of the most outwardly dynamic labels who’ve drawn that latter curve. The core trio of Ben UFO, Pearson Sound and Pangaea have represented an ultra percussive style that wears its myriad of influences proudly, aligning textural 4x4 with massive bass and explorations in sound born out of the early FWD>> movement. Justly, their first compilation, ‘116 & Rising,’ has received glowing global praise since its release last month and the troupe return to Room One to explore the realms of possibility, bringing a bunch of likeminded friends with them. Joy Orbison returns to headline a lineup that features the most prominent of acid causalities Blawan, a live performance from Wbeeza and unties Ben UFO with an equally inhuman selector, Oneman; whilst FABRICLIVE 57 mixer Jackmaster squares off with one half of the influential Beat Dimensions duo, the Amsterdam native, Cinnaman, in a back to back style.

Pinch returns to Room Two to outline his Tectonic label’s deadly bass bin heavy prowess. Quickly approaching their fiftieth 12” release, the label has chronicled an exceptional brace of talent, housing work from Skream, Benga, 2562, Joker, Addison Groove, Martyn and RSD amongst others, providing all other on looking labels with a benchmark for integrity and diversity within a signature sound. Joined by Shed, an artist whose live performance explodes with depth and bass texture, Swamp 81 boss and long time cohort Loefah, Rinse FM DJs Youngsta and Distance, album signing Jack Sparrow and Bristol reggae prophets Dubkasm, Pinch will be emphatically joining the dots between his soundsystem heritage and the trench of upfront dubplates he keeps hidden in his, the deepest of all, pockets.

Room Three will be hosted by the team behind Sonic Router; a blossoming online electronic music resource that’s been running since February of 2009. Having re-launched with vigour, a new site and an explosion of in depth features and sterling entries in their weekly mix series back in April, the site has put together a bill that complements the artists in other rooms. Mosca tops the billing; accompanied by Rinse FM’s young techno obsessive, Braiden before Numbers signing and regular beat lethario, Redinho will carve his very own party before your eyes with his talk box infected live show. And Randomer... well Randomer is set to bring the carnival - something he did incredibly well on his Sonic Router Mix (#64) back in January.

WBEEZA INTERVIEW

If you’ve read anything online about South Londoner Wbeeza (pronounced double-u-beezer) it probably centred around the fact that he makes music, that he lives in Peckham or that his debut album ‘Void’ for the Third Ear label played out like a sonic sketchpad of short ideas. What you won’t necessarily be aware of is Warren Brown’s thinking behind the record, the meticulous levels of energy that he puts into his live show and the fact that his kick drums often have a pitch perfect resonance – an ideal talent necessary to making great groove based music.
