Can I record a guitar onto a DAW with a midi controller?

I have an amp and can connect the output to the input for the midi. Just curious if this will let me record as a track on a DAW (reaper or ableton).
Thanks!

You need a midi guitar/midi pick up, or some audio to midi software if you want to record midi with you guitar.
If you want to record audio, you need to plug it into a audio interface, and record away.
I think you should go read more about what midi is btw, because I don't think you totally get it going by your question.

You're probably right.
The controller has an input function and I was just hoping that it could siphon the input from the amp into the computer. I'll have to check it out, I think the solution is pretty simple.

Not sure, but I've heard you cann record from your guitar into FL's Edison and convert the audio recorded into midi notes

Yeah that's called "dump midi to piano roll" I think? That's pretty crazy thouh. Technology can learn songs by ear.

The only issue is, with a guitar you have to play pretty much one note at a time, and not bend the strings at all.

Line 6 POD right? Yeah, I figured it was going to be a solution like that. Sick.
I'm hoping to do things like this.

I don't know if this is possible, someone else will have to confirm, but couldn't you get a TRS to minijack adapter and plug it straight into your mic or line in ports on your sound card?

Yeah, it sounds like crap though. You have to have some sort of electronic preamp for it.
I'm checking out some used Line 6 Studio POD's. Worst case scenario, I'll make a sample and export it to ableton/reaper/whatever. I've wanted to do this for a while. Apparently the POD's are designed to talk to ableton so this might be really interesting. If I could model an amp/distortion/etc on the preamp and then have it go clean or dirty to ableton that would be really really neat.
Edit: Just ordered a POD XT. Found one on ebay and promptly missed auction close cause I had to leave my computer at work. Found another one online and just bought it through paypal. Cost like 20 bucks more than the ebay one but it was in much better condition than the other stuff I'd found. Sa-weettt!

The POD XT is just what you`ll need.
You`ll have endless fun.
It comes with it`s own Guitar preamp simulator.
It interfaces perfectly with all major daws, no issues.
Add guitar rig and you`re set for life.
Or go the Waves GTR3 route, you`ll never worry about a guitar sound again.
Every damn pedal, preamp and effect you`ll need.

You Rock Guitar put out an inexpensive midi guitar for about $200 that works great! I've written most of my music with this instrument by plugging it via USB into Reason and Logic. It also has a Midi out so that you can plug it into an interface.
I've found that there's a lot more that you can do with a full midi guitar. For one, there's a tap mode that you can turn on that allows you to play notes without having to strum, which means that I can trigger my midi keyboard and midi guitar at the same time. It also has a pitch bend and mod wheel.

Got my guitar working with the line 6 GX or whatever it's called. Sounds okay, but I need to learn to mix the sound right since the volume and tone was all wonky.
Need to learn to stretch the piece a little bit too because it's fitting in awkwardly in FL and I'm having a hard time pasting copies of it back to back without a brief 'click'/moment of silence between the first bit ending and the second one starting.
But it works. This is going to be fun to play with.
I need to learn to create a longer 'loop'.
One awesome thing I noticed was that if I have a really short loop going, it makes a really neat glitchy percussion-y sound. I need to figure out how to save that so I can sample it on the mpk pads. It'd sound awesome!
