DJing with an MC

Hey DSF, just a quick question that I'm kinda stumped with...

I got my first DJing gig with MC's involved and I don't really have the option to tell them to fk off (one of them is the event manager that got me on the night). I been thinkin about it and in the past every rave ive been to with an MC htey talk waay too much.

I kinda had a general idea of my set before I found out that I'd have MCs, now I'm wondering if I'm gonna have to scrap all hte tunes I had with vocals.

So basically what I'm askin is, as a DJ working with an MC on a rave night, are you supposed to play just instrumentals, or is it ok to drop the occasional vocal tune to make the MC STFU. And if you do, around about how often can you do it before the MC notices and thinks your taking the piss.

The MC should know his place.
Delusions of grandeur are bollox.
You`re all there for the music after all.
If he chooses to ruin the music by just being a tnuc then play the vocal beats.
In the end you are the DJ and he is for all intensive purposes - the support act.
Unless he`s excellent in which case he`ll respect your set and not be a tnuc.
Discuss it before hand.
Be professional and he might surprise you.

Na, I'm gonna holla at the MC and talk to him about it. I didn't actually think it was worth doing, but I may as well.

Yeah I would definately plan it before hand...

Be like, keep quiet when I play the first 10 mins but when I drop Sweet Shop it's your time to shine. ;)

Don't just think about yourself and all the tunes you wanna rinse though, think who your audience are, if you're playing to a bunch of 16/17 year olds then they you'll be stuck with some tnuc saying 'YEAH MANG WHO WANTS BAYZ GANNONS?'

hopefully he'll be some deep bar sprayin' madman though.

ask the 'MC' if he's playing the role of an MC or a Host?

tell him fuck of for 32 bars while mixing if you can get them tempo matched in 32 bars you should not be working with an mc Just sayin it gives him a chance to gather his thoughts and not spit crap which most party mcs do and grab a swallow of water /booze /hit the bowl or what ever

Don't EVER rewind at the request of a DJ, it's your set, just mix in an even phatter tune afterwards.
Also turning the MC's mic off is a beautiful thing to watch.

However the point is that if they are any good you won't need to.
