Multi-Octave Sampler?

Google didn't throw up anything but maybe I can't explain it very well...
Basically I'm wondering if anyone knows of a sampler that you can load multiple octave samples of the same instrument or patch into; a traditional sampler (in my experience anyway) takes one sample, and shortens/lengthens it to achieve the pitch when you play, but this can sound stupid when you extend the range much past an octave, so is there a sampler that would allow me to take say, 4 violin samples at ascending octaves, and then upon playing a chord or series of notes spanning a few octaves, it will use the octave sample closest to it, therefore reducing the problem of severly shortened notes?
Anyone got any clues?! Cheers
