Too old for Dubstep concerts...I'm embarrased...

Post by ladybasehead » Tue Jun 28, 2011 11:56 pm

I am a 59 year old female and am into many types of music. I recently became introduced to dubstep by my nephew. I have been listening to electronic music for many years now but dubstep blew me away! I am still familiarizing myself with various artists from Kode9 to Excision. This is for real....I am not a troll!

Skrillex was in town last night and I went to his concert. My husband usually goes with me but couldn't last night. WTF...I went alone. Wow was I self conscious. Slammed down a couple of brews and walked through the door into a hall of teens and twenties.

What do you think? It is odd enough that I am a female...probably the only one my age in the states...who listens to dubstep.

I know I will get some negative comments but I can handle it.

You're going to the wrong shows.

I'm 21 and even I am too old for a Skrillex show.

Nothing to feel embarassed about. I think it's great that you're being open minded to music and checking out new scenes at your age. It's only a number really. Music knows no boundaries and that's what's great about it. Although I wouldn't be caught dead at a skrillex show but to each their own, right?

Thank you for your positive replies.

Yes I do like being open to new experiences in general. It makes my life richer.

I have been surfing around this forum. Wow... there are lots of artists to check out. I have the feeling that I as a new dubstep listener have been listening to the "pop" or more commercial DJs. Yes Skrillex was fun but sort of disco-like at the same time. Being that this is a UK forum site I am sure I will get exposure to tons of great sounds.

Unfortunately...dubstep is still underground here.

Am I the only loser on this forum that likes Skrillex AND other Dub producers?!
Soundcloud Sequencer drenched, hefty 80's synth leads, and two drops in the same tune! What a bargain!
Soundcloud Proggy melody, up-tempo Drumstepish style, over the top drums, and some unintentional bars of 2/4 thrown in for good measure.

You shouldn't be embarassed.. I've noticed at most of the mid to large name electronic shows (at least around here in Canada) have broad ranges of people, a good hunk of them in every age range. I know a several people in their 60's who frequent more shows than I.. lol!
