so im new to making dubstep, and i feel like this is my best song out of the 5 that i've made so far, so i wanted to know what advice do you have for an up and coming producer and how could i make my tracks better? what are they missing?

Make those two elements hit harder and you may well be the next Jakes! Brilliant track for a beginner tho. Even if some of your notation is a bit off key it worked for this track pretty well

Have a look here for info on music theory, even tho its kinda worked for you here, you cant make every track dissonant (not in key) or you will sound like you are a poor producer. It really is the most important thread for you to grow as a composer of music.

i've always known i've needed to learn music theory, just been lazy. i might just take a class on it at school, since im going anyway, and it should help out my music as well. but thanks for the listen! i will also learn it on my free time.

another thing though i've had problems with is my drums, it seems like i can't make a good drum pattern to save my life. i really need help in that department.

here's a good tip on some drum patterns. listen to someone like bare noize or something (who keeps around 140bpm) and literally try to mimic their drum pattern. it'll give you a better understanding of how to lay out your own patterns and how to develop your own style of trippy dub drums. (try saying trippy dub drums 10 times fast lol)

and definitely look into the mixing stuff. also on a side note, noticed your in minneapolis? i'm visiting st paul right now, family. i'm from apple valley if you know that suburb lol

I wouldn't take bare noize as an example. His sound is good but he stops and starts waaay too much. Take numbernin6 as a good starting point, and Skream will teach you how the right tonality and placement can allow you to have very simple but effective drums.

true you're definitely right. bare noize is probably my favorite dubstep artist because of their percussive phrasing. just genius.

i'd say benga would be a great starting point for drums. even rusko

thanks for the feedback. i will definitely try to mimic someone like numbernin6 and then create my own style. i think i can get far doing that. benga for some reason i don't like, i like more ppl like badklaat and coffi.

i don't really like benga either, just his drums are very good
