Has anyone here mastered the way that this impossible synth is used? Is so, how did you do it, and how long did it take you?

I would advise reading the manual (it literally has everything in there), or youtube tutorials

nope, it gets intense, i generally tweak the easy mode paramaters and am able to get some nice unique shit out of it.

Not a single FM8 tutorial that's actually effective exists.

Not even Chris Lake has mastered that synth yet.
I would suggest reading the manual intensively, so you can get an overall understanding of the interface; and looking up general synthesizer tutorials for applicable knowledge.

Lol try Absynth, even though I'm going through a tutorial it's still an absolute nightmare.

you could try using it like a regular synth, to learn the envelopes, filter and stuff. Ignore the fm ratio`s and just use the oscliators like you would on a normal subtractive synth then when you are ready, enter the matrix...

I downloaded the demo and shat my pants.

once you understand what everything does, its not hard.
getting good sounds is all about experimentation
fyi, the filters suck

It's really easy to use if you RTFM. It has a very clever routing matrix to get some sweet sound business going on but I must say it might scare some people on it's first look.

Makes no sense? Have you used FM8? they barely alter the sound and whAt they do doesn't really sound like anything, at least that's my experience with them and I've heard the same from other people to. Unless I'm not usig them effectively

read how FM works and it suddenly becomes easy.
The key to good sound is subtle modulation.

It's really easy to use. Retardedly easy. Read the manual and then study up on some FM synthesis.
Though I like Blue by Rob Papen much more. Does FM and wavetable with an interface that I can dig more. Give it a shot.

They are quite vanilla imo, but they do work, and can sweep from fully open to closed.
You most have the outputs/routing setup in away that it's not doing much.

Yes, that makes no sense.
Are you sure you are routing the operators to the filter correctly?

I've had trouble with it too, especially the filters. If i use an lfo on the modulator going to the carrier it sounds ok, but if i put a filter envelope or a low pass with lfo after anything, I can barely hear any filtering on the sound. Maybe i should send the modulator to the filter instead of the carrier? Carrier is the one that is affected by the modulator right?

this is what happens to me, what i usually have done is send the carrier to the filter and the filter out the the main, that is interesting what you said though manic, send the modulator through the filter, i can deff see some nice movement in a bassline coming from that, gonna try it now!
