just got this via Facebook (after having one of my blog posts forcibly removed from a DMCA takedown thing)...
i sent you a message on your blog now i will ask you here cease all actions using my husbands artist name Drty he has had it for 11 years almost and he will not hesitate to report you to facebook for copyright infingement and contact our lawyers to see about a law suit you should have looked up the name before you started using it now this is your last warning have a nice day

So what do I do
I did look up the name before using it, found nothing, also looked it up again now and still cant find anything
http://www.google.co.uk/search?rlz=1C1G ... 80&bih=933
What should I ask for? Proof of this 'copyrighted' name? Is that even possible lol.

Ok, a quick Google reveals...
1)
http://www.myspace.com/djdrtyatx
2)
http://www.mixcloud.com/DJDRTY/
2 again)
http://soundcloud.com/DJDRTY
I'm going to discount the DJDrty I found from Malta as the language used in that message you've posted seems more suited to Americans.
I'm fairly certain that you can only 'sue' (and I use the term very fucking loosely here) for misuse of a nickname in this instance if you can prove the offending party has caused damage to reputation/loss of earnings as a direct result of the infringement.
So, if you've cost this bloke money/gigs/respect and he can prove it, then you could indeed be in trouble. But seeing as the two examples I've listed above are Electro Club DJs from the southwest of America, it seems unlikely.

I'm pretty sure that's not possible. And if it's such an issue, why would the guy hide behind his wife?
Loads of DJs & producers have same or similar names. I think you've been had mate.
Do you say
zerbaman? Or do you say
zebraman?

yeah I've been Googling, seems she's not got a leg to stand on. Also checked the 'Intellectual Property Office' to see if there is a registered trademark under 'DRTY' and there is not.

Ask for a link to her husband's website, with full contact details (inc. phone number) so that you can get in touch if need be.

Not a bad idea - get her to post her grievance on your Facebook wall in public view and you'll have a legitimate case for defamation of character

Ignore her.
You cannot claim intellectual property damage unless she can prove that your name has caused her husband to lose money, status, or opportunity.
then tell her that he should be more concerned with unlicensed useage of a blatant intellectual property violation regarding her husband using the name "DjDrty" in the Dirty dancing font.
also there has been proven difference between DJ ______ and _______
DJ Skrillex is not the same as Skrillex

Why lawyers though? Why not just lawyer? What possible legal complications could this couple have on a regular basis that a lone law professional would not be able to keep under control?

well I'm guessing they're imaginary, so adding an extra one adds that bit of impact.

Get as many personal contact details off this woman as you can, then post them online.
