Antidepressants
I'm thinking about asking my doctor to put me on them.
I'm not overly depressed but I find it hard to find any enthusiasm or excitement about of every day life. I'm not a horrible person, at least not all the time but think I'm naturally a negative person, even when given reasons for happiness, and it has a habit of hurting those around me and lowering my mood further.
I don't know antidepressants are really necessary for my negative out look and I know there are side effects but i wonder if there can be any harm in trying an artificial high that may improve my attitude to things.
Deep!

Re: Antidepressants
Do it. I take antidepressants for depression and anxiety and it's improved my quality of life so much.
Re: Antidepressants
Antidepressants should be a last resort IMO but it's not my body or life so do whatever you think is right

Re: Antidepressants
I think these are a major problem. I think most people on them probably don't need them. I'm not saying you don't, I don't know you of course. I just mean it's normal to feel down/sad/depressed sometimes, it's a normal human emotion. If it is interrupting significant aspects of your life, or putting stress on or destroying relationships/opportunities/etc then yes it should be addressed. You should talk to a professional or 2 about it before going further.
Do you do any drugs right now?

Re: Antidepressants
If you're a consumer of narcotics, don't take anti depressants.
Re: Antidepressants
NO.
Anti-depressants will not make you happy, they just make you mentally numb to whats actually depressing you.
I know experiences will vary but I absolutely despised them, I was no longer sad as I no longer cared....but I didn't care about anything either. It was just like a cloudy fog that made me get through each day without actually living. I felt sluggish and mentally slow, my appetite ramped up and I always had a sense of detachment, like I was living in a hazy dream.
I think they're good at getting people through short-term rough patches, but I dislike how easily they're prescribed.
You need to make small active steps to improve your well-being. You need to find something that interests you and pursue it. Whether that's music/sports/games/money whatever. Exercise is a good short-term fix, endorphins and dopamine is released naturally making you more content.

Also, as naff and faux as it sounds, positive thinking helps in abundance. You've already classed yourself as a 'negative person', which just re-affirms any negative thoughts, creating a sad cycle. Forcing yourself to laugh or make positive statements, even if you don't believe them, and more and more it filters in.

it is normal to feel down.
Quit smoking weed (if u do), and find a new hobby

Most people that start taking anti-depressants never come off them. My bird has been taking them for years, she's not depressed at all now, but still takes them.... if she stops she gets twitchy and on edge though, not good.
If you can avoid them, avoid them.

Re: Antidepressants
"My argument with so much of psychoanalysis, is the preconception that suffering is a mistake, or a sign of weakness, or a sign even of illness, when in fact, possibly the greatest truths we know have come out of people's suffering; that the problem is not to undo suffering or to wipe it off the face of the earth but to make it inform our lives, instead of trying to cure ourselves of it constantly and avoid it, and avoid anything but that lobotomized sense of what they call 'happiness.' There's too much of an attempt, it seems to me, to think in terms of controlling man, rather than freeing him. Of defining him rather than letting him go. It's part of the whole ideology of this age, which is power-mad."

Re: Antidepressants
as someone who took antidepressants for a few years i would say its a bad move, drugs of any kind, legal or not, will just complicate matters
also, antidepressants are not an artificial high, they shut off all your emotions so you don't feel anything, not make you feel good

what is of value and wisdom for one man seems nonsense to another.
Re: Antidepressants
The thing is I dont feel depressed, at least not in the sense that you imagine depressed people to be in...or at least i dont think I am. Life isnt that bad, ive got good people around me and reasons to be happy but I feel im often a pessimist and that brings my mood down. I just want to know what its like to have a more positive attitude and a vibrant outlook.DRTY wrote:this x100000000000000000000000000wormcode wrote:I think these are a major problem. You probably think i should just man up and based on what i just said above i probably proved antidepressants arent my answer. I think onelove has made some very good points which highlight some of my apprehensions but im wondering if trying this as a different perspective on life could be benificial.
Positive thinking for some reason isnt always easy but i think quitting weed is definitely a good start.

I didnt know this and i dont like the sound of it. Doesnt shutting off your emotions effect the happy ones as well? I dont want to be numb to things, I just want to be positive.capo ultra wrote:also, antidepressants are not an artificial high, they shut off all your emotions so you don't feel anything, not make you feel good
Re: Antidepressants
Yeah if you smoke on the regs then defo defo defo stop. I used to smoke a lot... and basically felt exactly as you're describing, just 'meh' about everything.
After stopping smoking, everything is better (imo), generally feel much 'clearer', and have motivation to do things.
