the pc has got 3.2ghz, 2gb of ram, 250gb. on fruity loops it says it using 140mb of ram and cpu poly 30 then the sound just stops after distorting.

Go under options > audio settings and look at the buffer length under direct sound properties. If it is set too low you can have clipping/distortion/glitches. If it is set too high though and you are using midi devices, there will be lag. If you are using midi devices, best thing is to find the best setting that does not produce any glitches yet has very little lag when midi device is used.

It sounds like you could also just be using an oscillator or some other sound and not cutting the frequencies or have a long decay on them. If the sound loops enough you get more and more frequency build up and the sound will get more and more distorted. A good way to test if that is happening is if you play the sound once and stop it, when you stop it is there still sound slowly decaying? If it is, basically all that decaying shit could be adding up to create distortion if the sound loops enough and if the decay is too long.

is this "clipping" freezing your computer intermittently? Are you using the ASIO setting on your sound card? what's your external sound system like?
