Personally, I do regular mixtapes. Some have my own productions on, some don't. Of these mixtapes (I try and do one every couple of months), I will put for d'load on a few forums/Twitter/a specially picked mailing list via my Hotmail of mates, and will take generally 10-20 copies burnt onto CD with trackmarkings/labelling/contact details/artwork/tracklisting whenever I go to a night that is relevant.

I'll chat with promoters when I get to the club, maybe have a word with some of the DJs playing afterwards if I enjoyed their set, and always make sure I take time to chat to the guys outside giving out the flyers at the end of the night.

The answer lies within history.

by been original, doing your own thing and making your tracks have some sort of cutting edge over the tens/hundreds of thousands of other Dubstep tracks.
Also don't lick bum bum cos then people treat you as lower than they are and people will undermine your talent. But its never bad to try and get to know some big artists who may be able to share your music and get you more noticed...
Also the one biggest, easiest way which costs nothing is to message some Youtube channels who promote dubstep and ask them nicely if they'll listen to your track and upload them.. this can potentially get a lot of views and get you noticed...................................................................................

Become friends with someone who is already in the industry, use them to get heard by the right people. Tommy Lee apparently can hook people up... try to get ahold of him.

Persistence and networking mate. There's no magic answer. Its took me a good 2-3 years to get talking to people in the Garage scene (that is 2-3 years + the time it took me to get to a good standard of production), where I finally managed to release an EP on a digital label (not hugely well known tbf but put out decent amount of releases), and most important for me, gain praise, support, and personal compliments from some of the people I 'idolised' (sounds gay but its true) when I first started, most of all Grant Nelson, Danny J Lewis, and Todd Edwards.

Now I'm trying to work my way into the House scene, which is a lot larger than Garage. And that is what really tests your persistence. There has been lots of times where I've been promised a release on one of my remixes or whatever, only to be turned down by some idiot A&R or label owner, and I've thought 'I can't be arsed with this'. It really is all about persistence. You keep at it, don't let things get you down, and something comes round that takes you one rung up the ladder when you least expect it.

Regarding the 'mainstream' side of the music industry, I wouldn't know, its not something i intend to pursue (until the general public's taste in music improves). The style of music that I do is not something that appeals to Joe Public or the masses, therefore, I believe I would have to sell out and make shite to be recognised in the mainstream. I believe this for House anyway, Garage has more scope as it has been popular once and looks to be a little more popular lately.

Lastly, regarding 'recognised by the industry': this:


Guetta was good back in the day, as soon as he 'got recognised', everything he made was crap and sounded the same. Just listen to Black Eyed Peas. More or less everytrack is complete throwaway dross. Let this man be an example of how not to get recognised lol.

I've been writing a little more House tunes lately (lol my new track in my sig) So i've been trying to find my sound and see what I can do with it..
I mean In a sense getting known isn't so hard..
It's just about the persistence and willingness you put into showing the world you make music

depends what you mean by "recognized".

I don't know how "recognized" in the industry the people in this thread are but I assume if you want to make it big you have to move to a big city, go to parties, network with people, suck dick both metaphorically and literally, be good looking or at least be not hideous. or if you are hideous you have to be extra hideous, like something spectacularly gross.
