Oslo explosion: one dead, dozens injured and buildings damaged after Norway city blast
A massive explosion rocked central Oslo on Friday, killing "several" people, injuring dozens of people and severely damaging government buildings including the Prime Minister’s office.

The blast comes as Norway grapples with a homegrown terror plot linked to al-Qai'da. Two suspects are in jail awaiting charges.

Last week, a Norwegian prosecutor filed terror charges against an Iraqi-born cleric for threatening Norwegian politicians with death if he is deported from the Scandinavian country. The indictment centered on statements that Mullah Krekar - the founder of the Kurdish Islamist group Ansar al-Islam - made to various news media, including American network NBC.

Car bomb they're reckoning...don't think that's confirmed though.

Glass is all more likely to break than concrete and steel of buildings, if you're getting your conspiracy on.

So far the Norwegian authorities have no leads except that the explosion is from a bomb.

This is breaking news here in Denmark so we're hearing all about it at the moment. Thoughts go out to all our Scandinavian brethren.

Yeah, we're just hearing about this as well, although it looks like it's a political youth camp so not exactly children, but either way it's disgusting.
The attacker appeared to be dressed as a police officer.. Scary shit..

Seems the Prime Minister (whose office was bombed) was due to attend the Youth Rally where the shooting took place.

Death toll has risen to 7 for the bomb blast, and 4 confirmed for the shooting.

Looks like the scene of a war here, completely crazy. I live about half a kilometre from where the bomb exploded, and immediately I thought lightning had struck the building right next to us when I heard the blast. Surreal stuff. Also with the shooting at Utøya. A man has been taken into custody by police there, the police have confirmed.

News over here is calling it "Norway's 9/11"

In a sense, I guess you could call it that. When it comes to numbers of casualties though, this is nowhere near 9/11. But this is the first time Norwegian soil has been attacked since the Second World War, and the bomb being placed in the epicenter of Norwegian politics, it's obviously a very serious incident.

It has been coming. Failed terrorist attacks have been carried out in Sweden and Denmark, and with Norwegian troops being heavily involved in Afghanistan and Libya (also with the Muhammed-drawings), it was in a sense only a question of time. However, how can you safeguard against a terrorist attack?

I'm a bit puzzled about the shootings on Utøya though. It seems to me very stupid, as part of a co-ordinated terrorist attack, to send one armed person to and island to kill a bunch of kids. If he gets caught, something he has now been, and it turns out he's involved with the Oslo bombing, he's the obvious link to catching whoever was behind this. But then again, extremists doesn't really seem to care much about rational strategic thinking (ie; suicide bombings). A guy on TV now said he thought it was over 30 kids killed at Utøya - fucking hell. Jesus.
