Reactive EQ

Is there any such think?

Like an eq which boosts frequencies which are low and tames those that are high, and moves as the song plays?

Sort of like the analyse feature in FL's EQUO only in realtime?

There is such a thing as dynamic eq.

But if there was a highly accurate version of what you're talking about, it would just output something akin to white noise.

yeah sounds like a smart idea on paper but nowaysj is right, you would end up with all frequencies at the same volume which is just white noise. Can't imagine it ever being anything close to a replacement for good mixing even if it did work though

Gah, it's kinda obvious now lol

The idea of multiband compression is not far off this aswell, mind you. Just larger swaths of frequencies are analyzed and compressed as they peak out.

Spectral dynamics plugs that could do something similar. Basically a multiband compressor but with a shitload of bands.

this just reminded me of the Dynamic Spectrum Mapper plugin from Pro Audio DSP, it's pretty clever but i think it's more useful for rescuing a bad mix than anything else

Did that plug fizzle out? I remember it was pretty serious business a while ago? Was just thinking about that thing last night, funny you mention it. Whats the word?

no idea, I read a 10/10 review of it in a magazine and i think i downloaded a demo but didn't find it that useful

never even thought about it....interesting concept...but i guess as ^^^^ said the closest youll get is a spectral mapper
