Excuse the shameless promotion here, but I think you might be interested in this new iPad workstation. Plus nowaysj was heavily involved in it, so that gets a pass, right? :)

Retronyms has a track record of great iOS apps like Recorder, DopplerPad, Synth, and ReBirth, and this is the biggest app we've released for the platform so far.

The new app is called Tabletop, and as the name suggests, it emulates the table-top gear that an electronic producer might use. It’s an expandable modular studio where you can mix and match a variety of unique devices including samplers, mixers, effects, sequencers and more. We believe it's the first musical environment designed from the ground up exclusively for the iPad. Each device has its own uses, characteristics, personality — ranging from classics like drum pad samplers to touchscreen effects. Just drag the devices you want to use to the tabletop and chain them together like you would with real hardware. Modern beatmakers and electronic musicians Salva, Exillon, and nowaysj contributed drum kits, synth and tone patches, as well as multiple demo songs.

We think Tabletop fits nicely into an studio. Move your sounds to and from Tabletop using iTunes File Transfer, sample from the mic, line-in, or even from your iPod library right in the app. Plus, support for AudioPaste lets you paste sounds from other iOS apps. Finally, we’re really excited to announce that we’re the first third party developer to support Korg’s WIST (Wireless Sync Technology) protocol. Sync up two iPads and jam!

For video and audio demos check out the website:
http://www.retronyms.com

For a limited time, it comes bundled with 9 devices: an eight-channel mixer, keyboard, low-pass filter, turntable, tone matrix, master out, input recorder, sequencer, and drum-pad sampler all for $4.99. Even more devices and effects are available as add-on purchases. Users buy only the gear they need from a growing catalog.

Tabletop is available now in the app store. Thanks for your time!

Oh snap! This place has been locked down tighter than a tycho drum lately. I hope our insect overlords will let this one slip by. Mad mad beatmaking software to be had!

Yeah, not sure if this is super against the rules. It's promotion, but it's also of interest to people on these boards for a bunch of reasons.

looks sick! Is it a fully capable DAW built to run on an iPad? or is it a mobile daw to get ideas down till you get home?

The only reason I would ever want an iPad.

And I really want it now.

Tabletop doesn't have the power of a true daw (for now). The iPad's processing is just too limited. You can make full on tracks in Tabletop though. Tapping out beats on the ipad screen is actually really effective. It feels about the same as the Maschine's pads  Sequencing is super easy to, you can just drag and drop patterns, and just rearrange on the fly, or launch patterns somewhat like you would on Novation's launchpad.

But this is a performance/jamming environment. It is very easy to get beats going, record your automation, resample. It is just plain fun! It is literally a tabletop full of instruments, mixers, turntabes, and fx at your fingertips. For a ridiculously low price (I cannot tell you how much work has gone into this, and by so many people), and you can take it all on the bus/train with you. Looking at this from the perspective of back in the day, it is honestly like if aliens landed with super advance beat making technology, the idea that you could have all that at your fingertips, so cheaply... just mind boggling. As these mobile multitouch devices get more powerful, sky is the limit, truly sick times ahead.

looks really sick! If I had an iPad and some money I would definitely get this after buying some monitors, MPK88, interface, etc.

Didn't you do a few RS3 or M8RX sounds, too?
