Want to make complex melodies but have no filing idea how to play the piano???? Get melodyne, hum/sing your melody in and export it as midi and quantize..... boom. Is this a known or widely used method? Or are we rockin world views right now

Thats considering you can hum the right notes to make it sound right...

Everyones voice has different range and can carry notes better than others you could be missing notes in your vocal range/not knowing what they sound like so unless you're a vocalist - this is only going to give you basic melodies.

Part of me thinks that tapping it with midi and finding the right notes is much easier.

just learn piano, it will take a while but eventually u will know what notes mesh well together

Easier on Ableton, as you can just record, then convert audio to MIDI.

Its possible in edison too for FL users

Yeah, Ill add FLStudio's EDISON has this ability too, have to contribute to the thread haha, cant just make a bad 90's IDM reference.

Record audio into Edison, then select the waveform, right click, hit tools > convert to score and dump to piano roll

Also works well if you have a sample you cant quite match the key of using your ears... Load it up, convert it to score, see what scale it reads it as... Not always a match, but, works alot of the time.

I'll hum out a melody, then place all the notes in the right places in the root note (i.e. C5) so I've got the spacing and timing down. Then I'll adjust them manually until I get the sound that I've got in my head.

I usually get the whole melody in my head and just find the first note in it then take it from there, sucks having no theory knowledge..
