Scratch_Eddie May 2007 Mix
Posted: Sun May 27, 2007 1:24 pm
Here's another live mix from studio Eddie in Sheffield, UK. This time it's an exploration of micro-house/minimal techno sounds which morphs imperceptibly into hard-as-a-piece-of-bread-left-on-the-kitchen-side-for-three-days clubstep riddim halfway through (I find dubstep a bit laborious on the dancefloor, and grime isn't complex enough for me, so I coined the phrase clubstep to describe my hectic take on these styles). I know this isn't technically the kind of place for minimal techno fans but the genres are related in the sense that they all try to do as much as possible with as little as is necessary.
I've tried to put in a load of tunes that I haven't put into previous mixes, including some of my own and the Shrimp's fine doomstep productions (from the forthcoming "We're doomstepped Mr. Mainwairing, all doomstepped!" EP, on Fine Choons Ltd.). It's quite messy in parts again, but that's because I'm not worried about sounding like a computer generated mechanised rhythm box. I'm more concerned with trying to do some more interesting things than the majority of organic jukebox DJs that I see when I bother to go out. There's plenty of scratching, some live flute playing and over all I push more envelopes than a postal worker. Oh yeah, I also get on the mic afew times to toast my brethren around the globe; don't be fooled, that is actually me and not Ray Von from Phoenix Nights as some people believe!
Here's the tracklisting with links and ridiculously detailed stats for those of you who play musical dungeons-and-dragons...I advise you to go out and buy all of these tracks so that the artists can afford to live and keep making their fantastic music.

Rogue State: Wicked n Bad (BIG CHOOON, R8 Records)
Head Hunter: Sushi Brain (Scratch_Eddie's Ed Hunted rework, I think the original may be on Tempa but I stole it [shame on me!])
Hawerchuck: Four Horsemen (another one of his top 12" from Planet Mu, does anyone know who this guy is?!?!?!)
Boxcutter: Rikta (from the album Oneiric on Planet Mu)
Scratch_Eddie vs The Pimpin' Shrimpernel: Armagedonetta4real mash up (on an end-ting)
So that's it for this month, hope you enjoy it. As usual, if you want a proper copy on high quality CDR then give me a shout and I'll sort you out.
