Phasing issues

Hello there, gangstaz.

Let's get to the point: I like to mix my tunes pretty wide, I just love lots of shorty delays, short reverbs, phasers & blabla... Yesterday I played one of my tracks in Mono and BAAAAMMM, phase cancellation like hell!

Question: Do you guys have any advice, links, articles, plug-ins, threads you can share with me, to help me understanding phase cancellation (I know what it is, so don't explain that to me a million times, please... I know you guys are pretty good in saying the same things a thousand times ) & how I can avoid/thread it!

Sometimes you just have to compromise...but work arounds include...

- Frequency splitting: into 2 or 3 frequency ranges (hi,mid,low...you could be fancy and do more and/or add additional fx/processing to each) with the lower frequency sends being mono.

- careful and slight sample delaying: duplicate a sound with high frequency content onto 2 channels, pan left and right, set with different EQ boosts or cut and then listen out for cancellation or phasing as you drag samples back or forth by ms's. you will find a point where they will sit well enough together, but remain wide and dont conflict as much.

plugins - basslane: will turn audio mono below a threshold which you choose. remember: Watch for changes in volume as you combine signals.

i like to through a stereo to mono on master bus when adding effects that might result in phase cancelation. Then as you apply check the results in mono. After some time doing this you'll start to get to know what effects are going to phase the most and wont need to a/b mono stereo as often
