Icicle's Dreadnaught Sub
I'm not one to make "teach me how to sound like this bigshot producer!" threads but here I am now. The sub in this song is probably one of the best subs I've ever heard (in that style if you feel me). I mean it seems so simple, like it has to be a sine with just a bit of embellishment, but what embellishment?

(God I hate that logo)
EDIT: Extremely subtle overdrive perhaps?

Re: Icicle's Dreadnaught Sub
its definately a sine wave. you just have to play around with what octave its at. you are probably enjoying what the mastering engineer did more then what the actual artist did

hes using volume modulation for sure maybe some tiny tube and compressor on top of a eq? fells like he went to the last point possible before clipping

Yea I feel ya Bud. Wouldn't be surprised if he sent the tube to a separate bus and eq'd that a little more too. BTW fucking sick track in your sig! May I ask something of the percussion? Online samples, recorded, or record digging?

Check out icicle's masterclass video.
with that in mind, i would bet he made that sub with logics esx24 sampler. (fantastic for subs). it has a filter with a drive knob on it, so if u run a sine through it and crank up the drive, with a lpf over it, you'll get that warm saturated sound he's acheived. modulate the filter cutoff with an lfo (hello 2006!) and you're done. also sounds like the amp envelope has a shorter decay and sustain. maybe run the finished sound through a vintage warmer as well.
icicle ftw. wicked song

Re: Icicle's Dreadnaught Sub
Yea I think it's some subtle overdrive that's adding that extra sexiness. Reason's Thor has a drive knob too, but I honestly don't really know EXACTLY how it's affecting the sound, gotta read up on that. Yea Icicle's a mean producer, but sometimes his stuff is a little too crystal clear HD DVD-ey if you know what I mean, for my taste.
