Live setup advice

hey guys, long time lurker, first time poster here.

I'm a producer whos been making all kinds of electronic tunes for the last 6 or 7 years on my home PC. I started out playing synth for a metal band, then went to producing hiphop and dance music, and eventually several years later am now producing dubstep.

I work with FL studio and Ableton, and have pretty much only used my midi controller + whatever interface I had at the time to produce all my music in the past. No outside hardware at all besides the midi controller which is just a standard keyboard.

Now I've been hard at work producing an EP for the last 3 or 4 months and am now at the stage where I need a way to play my music live. I've played a few house parties just playing my tunes and a few remixes with my Midi controller and my computer, just triggering samples manually that are assigned to keys on my midi controller. It works for showing my friends my tunes and playing them live, but is obviously not the most convenient way to play a live set, and doesnt offer much in the ways of manipulating the sounds live.

So my question is, what pieces of equipment should I chose to get first when building a whole new setup designed for playing electronic music.
keeping in mind I want to be able to both produce tunes in my home studio + play live with this equipment.

I've spent alot of time looking at all the crazy hardware available but really theres so much on the market its easy to go spend money on a bunch of stuff you don't really need/ that might not suit your musical needs. So I'm here asking you guys at DSF what you think I should do, and seeking some tips on the equipment you other dub producers use and love.

Thanks for reading, any replies are much appreciated.

Apc40 + Ill.gates apc40 dj template is what i would recommend... im going to switch from a launchpad+bcr2000 combo to an apc40 for my live gigs in the next month.

http://illgates.com/2011/07/ill-gates-a ... -template/

watch the video... If you are going to use ableotn live then you should use this IMHO Vadim and Bassnectar both use this template in one form or another (trigger finger versions still i think) but the apc40 adaptation is so fresh and clean and solid.

thanks for the replies guys, I like the look of the apc40+ill gates template, guy looks like he knows his stuff. Thanks for tip

blinx how did you find the launchpad? tbh thats the controller I was originally looking at, because of the price and ease of being able to get one at the music shop near my house where as I have to order the apc40 online.
The apc40 is quite a bit more from all the sites I checked that are local to me (approx 3x more in fact), but it looks like it might be worth spending the extra cash upfront to avoid wanting to upgrade from the launchpad a few months down the track.

The launchpad is cool for sure and offers alot of buttons to help you perform and write music. I just am evolving my setup and am now wanting an apc40 because i need more control and some more advanced features that i just cant get from the LP anymore but thats more of my djing side pushing me to change.

also you can hack the LP and do monome emulation and get all pretty lights.
