its starting to look like my ipods completely fucked. i went to update it today and it said charging please wait before i could update it. so i waited a while then i went to use it and it was on the apple screen then i heard a click and the screen went blank. i couldnt get it working so i held Menu + the center button to reset it or whatever. i did that and then itunes said i i need to restore my ipod. so i hit restore and it gives me an unknown error 1434 every time. does anyone know what to do when this happens? im like a lost soul without my ipod.

already read that. iv had this happen to me with an older ipod and i was able to get around it. cant remember what i did though.

didnt you read on the box when you got it that its gonna die in 5 years or less?


ive been through about 7 ipods, my first one was the very first one that came out and now i have a itouch 4g. i hope my itouch doesnt go out :/

damn didnt last long at all then :/ did it show a ipod with a sad face on the screen? if thats the case it means your hard drive is fucked and for the price to fix that you can pretty much buy a itouch. Ive learned to stay away from the ipod with hard drives (the classic ones with the scroll wheel) cause the itouches use flash memory which is alot faster and isnt as prone to breaking like the spinning hard drives. take it to apple for store credit and just get a itouch.

no sad face. it just shows the apple screen and a an all white screen that says ok to disconnect but its different than the normal one. but i can hear the hard drive clicking when i reset it and i can hear it whistling a tad bit. i wonder if apple would cover it?

Is it an ipod classic? I took my old ipod classic in to apple because I was getting the same error and they told me the hard drive was failing. The dude that helped me asked if it was moved and shaken a lot, in which I told him that I skateboarded, snowboarded, and jogged with that shit on a daily basis. He recommended not getting the classics because just like old ipods the hard drives use moving parts (which is that noise you're hearing when you try to start it up) and are easily fucked up if they're shaken or dropped enough times. I got the new nano now which is fuckin perfect for me-- light and small, so I never even notice it when I skate or run. It only fits 1500 songs which is 1/5th of my music collection, but I just switch music up every so often which actually helps me from being overwhelmed with just having a huge fuckin library. But if you've had it under 1 year they might replace it or hook you up with a cheap one because I'm pretty sure they all have a 1 year warranty. Mine went out 13 months after I got it (go figure) and I was only able to recycle it for a small discount off my new one.

yeah i used to have a 64gb itouch but i got it wet but that thing took a beating. this ipod didnt even last me a year and yeah i figured it was the hard drive failing.

the problem is i have like 55gb of music and i like to have all of it at my fingertips so i dont really want to waste money on a smaller storage size.

i wish they made fucking 120gb ipod touches for a reasonable price. that would be ideal.
