Problem with replicating massive's preformer manually

Post by dubesteppe » Tue Aug 09, 2011 9:35 pm

Hello! I am trying to replicate massives preformer through manual automation, but I'm having some trouble. Here is the Ableton Live set If anyone wants to help me out :D. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/27509821/Example%20Project.rar If any Non-ableton users want to try and help, here is the midi file with the automation on the pitch bend. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/27509821/Example.mid So you can just copy it from the pitch bend and paste it to your automation.
Basically I have a preformer in massive on a filter cut off, and i tried to duplicate it to do an "analog automation" of it, using a macro and limting it to the range of the lfo and automating it. Heres a screen shot.

Here is a render of the set. The first Thing is my attempt of modulating the cuttoff manually , and the second one the cuttoff being modulated by the preformer
As you can hear i have replicated the curves just fine, its the tripple downward ramp that im having trouble with, even though the dimensions of it are spot on to my automation lines
Soundcloud

EDIT: before anyone tells me I'm not automating the correct range. I have the macro limitied to the green area in the cut off knob

The 3 ramps seem to be only at ~80% amplitude in the performer and 100% in your automation.

yeah man the problem is, see in massive you have the performer only effecting a certain range of the filter cutoff. your manual automations are effecting a larger range so its not going to be the same.

I just tried it at 80% and it made no difference.

No its the same range. In the first picture follow the pink line. Its showing massives range and my range(which is being limited to exactly massive's)

hmmmm massive is also having this weird inconsistency. Here I recorded a loop, Soundcloud this is one clip that i recorded looping twice. you hear the first time it loops it goes Doooo De Dooo and the second time it loops it goes Doooo Dooo. It repeats this cycle over and over again even though its only one clip thats loopind. There arent any envelopes controlling it either
EDIT: you have turn the volume up to a decent level to her it

Do you have the "restart via gate" box checked?

To solve the inconsistancy check the "restart via gate" box under the Ocs tab and also check Restart under any LFO you use for that automation.
