HUGE writers block PLEASE HELP

I have not been able to get out a track for the past 3 weeks. I have been producing for almost 4 months. And pumping out a track each weeks and sometime a couple per week. And each time i have released a track its been better than the last.

I think there may be some sought of psycological thing going on here, like, i think that im trying to be better than i actually am (only recently though). For example, i'll start a track and ill get about 30 seconds-1 minute done and then i'll just be like "nah screw it i dont like this genre", or "this sounds crap," or "what do i do next", so then ill just start up a new project and do it all over again.

But im getting overwhelmed with save files, and im getting NOWHERE. :(

And i keep getting stressed because i havent been uploading to youtube since i havent made anything for ages because i cant.

Please try and help me and please be supportive, im having a harder time than you think. :(

there's only one real way to get past writer's block. and that's just to truck through it. work on a tune and just make whatever the hell you can make. I've been in a block for the past 3 weeks myself and just this past night have pretty much finished a track from scratch. you just have to push through it man. get an idea and roll with it.

gotta realize that even though youre blocked up and can't put out a track, you're still going through the process off trying to make tracks and practicing different aspects of producing. instead of trying to push out tunes, sit down for a day and just make synth patches over and over to learn your synth of choice or put together a bunch of drum loops. this will give you practice, help you build a solid library for the future and you might even throw together a loop that'll will spark inspiration and break you out of your block. good luck dude, we all hit rough patches

Stop being fixated on quality sounding tracks. You've only been producing for over 4 months. Don't get into a mindset where you have to make tracks or you feel worthless; you should be making tracks because you want to. Music is fun, don't forget that. Be patient, take it all in stride and relax. Don't stress yourself, and maybe lower your standards or stop expecting so much from yourself ;-)

Oh, and personally, every time I feel like that, I either go back to previous tracks to either finish or improve them; or I try to completely remake a really popular, but easy track. I remade a few of AfroJack's tracks to the best of my ability. It's good practice. You can even take the route of reading a few tutorials. I get inspiration from learning how to do new things. Find something that works for you.

You seem to have been producing at a fast rate and that can burn out your creativity. Take a week off and by the time you get back to it, hopefully you'll have loads of ideas you can't wait to get going on.

hey man i have been producing as long as you have its alright. just stop being so cynical man you like something that you have started i guess. if not then just start something new until something pops up in your head, if still nothing then you might just not be able to make music dude just choose a new hobby temporarily or permanently then get back to music or don't get back to it.

Play another instrument of you can.
I just broke out the banjo with my uncle for 3 hours and I came back and wrote something with no problems.

Heres my 2 cents.

1) Take a break. Maybe a week or so.

2) Stop producing dubstep for a bit. (its not going anywhere ;) Change the tempo a bit. Take a shot at drum and bass.

3) Switch your style up completely. Make a tune with absolutely no lfos. Only mods and Envelopes. Or try a tune with only synths. or go for a tune that focuses on a middle eastern instrument. :)

Hope this helps.

This advice is gold. I've been making music now for well over 10 years. I've written what I would consider to be decent music, but I'm completely new to producing electronic music. Even as someone who has some music theory knowledge and years of song writing experience I am struggling to finish tracks or even progress past a loop. It's just the nature of things. You're not going to shit a gold brick every time you sit down at your computer, so you have to get out of the mindset or you will unfairly be dissappointed in yourself all of the time. If you had only been playing the piano for 4 months and you went to a piano forum and asked why you're not writing songs like Rachmaninoff you would be laughed out of town. These things take time. Just keep at it and don't get frustrated.

This is what I do and seems to work (for me personally).

Dont produce for about 3 - 4 days. Dont even go on your computer.

And just listen to tunes all day. Get a bunch of songs on your ipod or bust out all your vinyl, or whatever it is you use to listen to for entertainment. And just listen to music all day, even if you're on the go. And listen to as much variation in music in you can. Even if you wanted to stick to strictly dubstep, listen to every artist you can find and dont only listen to a song once, listen multiple times to different songs. Sometimes just for fun, and other times break down how certain sounds were made or arranged. It'll get your mind going and listening to other music will give you inspiration that can be used to develop your sound later down the road.

My 2c :4:

Make something for pure fun. Like make something that will make people either laugh or freak out something, that's what I do. My first song ever was me rapping about how hard I go and how long my dick was, my second song was about how I loved the Illuminati. I'm working on another song about bitches on my dick. It's called Bitch On My Dick.

Just making whatever came to mind without thinking about it too much helped me.

IIRC I:

1) Came up with a random chord progression
2) Then a drum beat
3) Then a melody

and went from there. Keep it simple.
