HIP HOP CHANGED THE WORLD

Post by dopocc » Mon Aug 15, 2011 2:01 pm

anyone cares to rip this one from here: http://www.channel4.com/programmes/how- ... -world/4od

and then upload it to youtube since it's not available from the channel 4 website to view outside the UK?

that would be awesome! it looks so good plus Goldie is in it!

Here's a link - http://www.channel4.com/programmes/how- ... -world/4od

I saw it but TBH I didn't think it was that great.

The fact that they had Chipmonk as a 'special guest' and kept asking for his opinion on incidents/artists made the whole programme lose a lot of credability IMO.

There were some interesting points but also a lot of shit that shouldn't have been included. I thought they also missed about a lot of stuff that wasn't included.

I also don't see why the fuck they mentioned So Solid Crew as they are not a Hip Hop group, they are Garage FFS. They also mentioned Jessie J and N Dubz who once again I don't have a clue what the hell they have to do with Hip Hop.

I believe during the whole show they failed to even mention DJ Premier, Gang Starr and Big L which is bit of a kick in the teeth.

All in all, if you have 2 hours to kill then it is probably (just about) worth a watch, if you're a busy person you'd be better off spending your time on something else.

Edit: sorry, just seen someone has already posted that link and it is of no use to those of you outside the UK.

Yeah, I'd agree with that, you aren't missing much if you can't see it. It could have been really good- but I guess hard to fit 30 years of history into 2 hours without cutting corners. The early stuff was the best done- they seemed to rush over things since the early 90's.

But why do it like yet another top 50 countdown programme, and why the fuck have Goldie and Jessie J commenting about Hip Hop?!?

I'd like to see a proper documentary series on it, without having to hear the wise words of N-Dubz cutting in every few minutes

If I'm not mistaken The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air came higher than Kool Herc.

Nuff said.

I thought the show was decent enough. It was more about moments in Hip Hop and how it spread into all corners of life, rather than "Gang Starr is no. 5 out of 50" type list. More how it went from heads in the Bronx to pushing a presidential campaign and a billion $ industry. So ignore the shit people who were answering questions and just enjoy the good bits and people representing the scene.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Scratch-DVD-Z-T ... 376&sr=8-2 - This is a better doc on hip hop imo. Although it is mainly focusing around DJing it still has a wide view on all areas of hip hop around the world.
