Marcu Vershi - Resistance System
"Marcu Vershi" builds a shuffling house groove atop, the plush chords and dubbed-out voices are ripped straight from the nouveau deep house textbook, the "Resistance System" still manages to make it sound fresh. Part of it's in the details—muted modular whoops, clarinet bleats—and part is in the idiosyncratic mixdown, with percussion samples jutting out of the murk like sticks in mud. Mostly, you're impressed by Vershi's talent for weaving new sounds into the mix: the groove is as bumpy as a carriage ride on a rutted road, and the scenery never gets boring.
Stockhammer version feels a touch of techno, at least percussion-wise and take ups the dance appeal, adding swinging hi-hats, curt drum rolls and mellow synth stabs, mid-section sees a massive release, crushing the vocals down into frantic loops with a walloping kick drum.
They're a pretty familiar sound, but their golden bowing is no less moving. The two work in unison, moulding gentle peaks and troughs without going to extremes.
