UNSOUND 2011 WEBSITE NOW UP ALONG WITH A DIVERSE FOURTH WAVE OF UNSOUND 2011 ANNOUNCEMENTS!
We've got our
website up, with the majority of music events detailed on line, divided according to days. There are still some surprises to come in the form of a few more artists, an extensive program of installations, talks and panel discussions. Info soon.
In the meantime, please feast your eyes on the array of names we've added, widening even further the breadth of this year's festival.
On the opening night of October 9th, retro-futurist
Felix Kubin will be joining forces with Polish musician
Macio Moretti to create a live score to the short film "Oj, Nie Mogę Się Zatrzymać!" (1924, dir. Zbigniew Rybczyński). Especially created for the festival, the
Generator Analogue Orchestra will see Wojcek Czern assemble Polish musicians to use analogue synths to perform a live soundtrack to the Soviet-era silent sci-fi film "Aelitta, Queen of Mars" (1924, dir. Yakov Protazanov).
As a closing event on October 16th, Sinfonietta Cracovia – Krakow’s royal orchestra - will perform at the Krakow Philharmonic Hall. Appearing after Jacaszek, they will not only play works by Polish composer Henryk Mikołaj Górecki and Arvo Pärt, but also present four sublime pieces with
A Winged Victory For The Sullen, the brand new project by Adam Wiltzie (Stars of the Lid, The Dead Texan) and Dustin O'Halloran, to be released on Krakow/Erased Tapes at the start of September.
Other artists have been added to the showcases from Not Not Fun and its dance-music offshoot 100% Silk. These include the fantastic
LA Vampires, Estonia's
Maria Minerva and
Magic Touch - as well as the previously announced Ital, Sex Worker and Dylan Ettinger. There will also be a presentation of time-bending video clips from the label, and a LA Vampires DJ set. This is the first time a showcase of this kind has been brought to Europe, and we're delighted to be behind it!
As for other announcements, mysterious French duo
Natural Snow Buildings will present their unique mix of psych folk and drone, rarely heard live.
Riding on the buzz surrounding the release of their upcoming album on Ghostly International, "Work Work Work," Australian duo
HTRK will perform music designed for a party at the end of time.
Mark McGuire, guitarist from Emeralds, has made a name as a solo artist for self-released work followed by albums on Editions Mego. He will present his immersive show, creating loops and kosmische grooves.
Brooklyn based
Machinedrum has released on Planet Mu what Resident Advisor called one of the defining albums of the year: “Room(s).” The man behind it, Travis Stewart, will also appear with Praveen Sharma as one half of the project
Sepalcure. This duo have released two EP’s with Hotflush, to be followed this year with an album. Sepalcure has performed at both editions of Unsound Festival New York – in fact, they made their debut there in 2010 - and we’re very happy to have them in Krakow.
Juke/footwork will come to Poland for the first time, with two of the Chicago scene's originators -
DJ Rashad and
DJ Spinn. Vienna-based
Tin Man will bring impeccably executed avant-House. Slovenian artist
Nightwave (aka 8Bitch) and Finland's
Teeth will prove, yet again, that mutating forms of bass music can emerge from any country and not just presumed centers.
From the Polish side,
Catz n Dogz will appear along with
SLG, representing the recently established Polish label Pets Recordings. Krakow duo
Sentel will present a set of bass music for which Poland is becoming known.
An On Bast will perform a show with visuals by Phovid, one of the winners of the Unsound call for entries.
Polish trio
Napszyklat’s crossover of hip-hop, noise and electronics make them perfect collaborators for a specially commissioned project with New Jersey's
iconAclass featuring
MC Dälek. Polish duo
Niwea blends Dawid Szczesny’s electronics with vocals by Wojtek Bakowski.
LXMP (Macio Moretti & Piotr Zabrodzki) use drums, bass and triggered Korg MS-20's to create blistering music; especially for Unsound, they will re-interpret Herbie Handcock's album "Future Shock.”
Passes are already on sale, with individual tickets to concerts going up this week. Make sure you buy early, as Unsound events are known to sell out.
Return to the website soon to see the full program of installations, screenings, talks and panels added – as well as a few more artist announcements.
