Behind the scenes of the ever-burgeoning underground bass music scene in the UK, there exists a symbiotic relationship between the sub-driven music and the visual art that parallels it. Through record sleeves, label artwork, party photography, press photos, and flyer design, artists have created an ocular compliment that aids in promoting the music on a Worldwide stage and bridges the gap for those unable to experience the scene first hand.
After widely successful solo exhibitions in London and Sheffield, UK from Georgina Cook, Ashes57, Tunnidge, and Shaun Bloodworth in the past year, "SubCulture" marks the first time these artists have showcased their works together outside of Europe.
In collaboration with Reconstrvct and Lifted Lab, an opening reception will be held from 8-10pm on Saturday, September 24th at the Morgan to celebrate the art that is so deeply embedded in the bass music culture. The reception will lead into the Reconstrvct party running from 10pm-4am featuring DJ sets from Tunnidge, Bunzer0, Joe Nice, C Dubs, and Truenature.
The exhibition will be on view downstairs at the Morgan from September 22nd thru September 29th. To commemorate the end of the weeklong run, we're also happy to announce that On The Sly will be hosting a special FREE closing party taking place at the Gallery @ Le Poisson Rouge on September 29th from 10pm-4am featuring Ital Tek, Dave Q, Braille, & knomad.
