On Soulstep’s STEP009 release,The Essex production team of Mat Tha Hat and Wom take things up a notch with their remixes of two Dionysus singles. Relatively new to the production game, these two have been making waves on the local DJ circuit with appearances next to DnB maestros Kenny Ken, Ray Keith, Break, and Icicle over the years. A recent turn to dubstep has this duo on the rise, as the pair has seen releases on Play Me 2 and Stupid Fly, and also have a slew of upcoming releases.
On Foolish, the duo blend classic dub sensibilities with modern day production values to take Dionysus into the 21st Century. Mat & Wom have clearly been listening to what’s happening on the West Coast of the US, as they bring the region’s lazer-bass whomp and blend it with a ragga drum kit and guitar stabs to create a unique dubstep burner.
On Going Home, its all iron, lion, Zion as the duo take Dionysus’ Going Home in a more traditional direction. Playing their cards close to their chest, the duo lets the source material play while beefing up production values on this 7 minute epic. Punchy drums, ragga brass, and a big dubby bass line will keep ‘em skankin’ long past the early light on this number.
