Just from what is immediately apparent, it's missing:

-midi in/outs - only usb. i only use the usb on my maschine anyway.
-only 1 jog wheels instead of the 11 knobs on standard maschine
-only 1 group button.

Everything else looks the same, same software, same library size, etc.

It's about 200 bucks cheaper.

What really caught my eye, though, was MASCHINE FOR IOS????? 5 BUCKS?

Thanks for the low down, do you think you could substitute the 11 knobs, for a midi control like a Nano Kontrol? or do you think you would be missing out on the Maschine integration?

Still not small but I bet its an awesome product.

If I'm getting any hardware soon it'll be an Electribe or a Synth though.

The knobs on the full-size maschine just control the software in maschine mode, and you can assign them to whatever you want in midi mode (obviously).
basically it depends on what you're trying to do with it. If you want to do any sort of live performance using the maschine software, it's going to be a little more difficult with the mikro. if you're just using it to track a song like i do, and don't really need to do everything from the hardware itself, you can just use the software to do the things that the extra knobs on the full-size maschine do. it looks like you can still do everything from the hardware just like on the standard maschine, it's probably just a little harder to navigate.

the nanokontrol could obviously operate as a standard midi controller, but as far as controlling the maschine itself, it would be pointless because the knobs are integrated with the screen on the hardware. if thats what you meant.

basically, the mikro is essentially the same thing, just 200 bucks cheaper and harder to navigate from the hardware (i honestly use the computer screen for most things anyway). i think it's safe to say it's worth getting the downsized model.

I think the point about live performances is the clincher - if you're going to be using maschine for live edits, then go with the adult model. If you're using it just for production, the mikro could be a real show stopper. I've been wanting to get maschine for a while - mikro may make me finally dip into my pocket :D

it`s not about the software but rather the integration between the 2.

Maschine iOS looks like it could be a lot of fun, however I couldn't bring myself to shell out for maschine when I've already paid for Battery 3.
