Post by Semihedonist » Thu Sep 08, 2011 3:32 pm

Hello,

I'm looking for some good VST to get proper horns sounds :)

Please recommend me something!

I have never heard of a VST specifically for horns, but I'm sure there's ways to make a similar sound with Massive/Albino3 or whatever. Just hunt through all the preset packages or tutorials on Youtube until you find something to point in the right direction of being able to design it. If you do, try and post back here, I'm pretty interested in them too. I'll keep my eyes out for anything useful.

Thank you for your reply :)

Yeah, I was just looking for shortcut :) I need some horn sounds to filter them properly for my use. So it is 1 step less... than: albino 3 -> horn -> filtering. Yea but maybe i'm just lazy ;)
I seen some horn/brass VSTs but recommendation is recomendation!

the vst you've seen is probably a sampler with a multisampled brass patch, which is the way i'd go if i were you unless you wanna go for that cheap fake horn sound (which can be nice sometimes)

You should be able to make one in any synth. Using saw waves and LP Filter cutoff enveloping.

If you're using FL &/or Sytrus, you should load up the horn patch in the DX7 preset folder. Export a long note and put it into a sampler so you can play an actual melody with it.

Freeware or payed?

Id advise trying out samples rather then synthed out horns. (i think they sound better and require less effecting but that may be personal taste,, one advantage to synth ones is the extra level of tweaking you can do to the tone of the sound)

I remember there was a good Vst a few years ago called saxlab by linplug, more a saxaphone then other horns but i think it was versatile. (never got round to trying it out tho, so ul need to read some reviews about it)

http://www.linplug.com/Instruments/SaxL ... xlab_2.htm

As for some freeware ones.

I heard theres one call Viagra VST thats good for the horn.
Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

I love that crappy "dirty south" horn south. Any ideas how to synthesize it? None of my synths have any decent horn presets.

I think its all about saws and how you low pass them. The envelope, mid-short attack, med. decay, set the sustain to where your horn timbre ought to be at the sustain phase, and use a touch of release on the amp envelope, with a falling (or rising?) filter envelope on the release. a touch of resonance on your low pass. That ought to be pretty much it.

To clarify my ass-ness (not really a word lol). I already did say how. And now 2DAY has done so too.

Thanks. Will try that.

I got poor results with zerba's hamburger method.

There's some Triton sample packs floating around, give them a search. I remember some brass/horns and Tritons are pretty much a staple in the rap industry.

Did I not post a serious response earlier? ;-)

Sorry, I must have been temporarily blind, didn't see that. Not using FL btw. Thanks anyway.

Cool. Probably wasn't too great an idea. The more I think of that preset, the more it annoys me.

Right before the drop. Killing an otherwise decent tune.

Time for the shameless self promo. My first "official" remix :6:

Anyone else reading the title as Ham VST whenever they see it in the board?
