It's finally here, sorry it took so long, but I wanted to tweak it around as much as I could.

For the record, I made this just to explore FM8, and learn more about FM synthesis, and a Skrillex bass seemed like a nice sound to try and get, since he does use FM8.

Sorry for the audio being so low, I have to sort that out.

Please also bear in mind that this is just a general guideline as to how to make a growl sound, try and learn from it rather than copying down all the things I did, it took me a while to figure out how to make this type of sound, so learn how I did do it, and it will help you understand FM8

Haha yeah, it actually sounds really similar to Skrillex and I wouldn't be surprised if this is the exact technique he uses (probably slightly different values and orders of the modulators but same talk wah, cabinet, similar patch, etc.)

See, the problem is now anyone can make a Skrillex bass. I really hope people don't just take this tutorial as a free patch and use it in all their songs. I'm taking it as instruction for this technique, and now that I understand the general technique I will be able to make my own sounds that are similar to this one but not exactly the same.

We are trying to learn here, not copy exactly other artists. I made this to explore FM8 and make a SIMILAR sounding growl not an exact copy. Go do something constructive rather than hating for no reason.

The bass does actually sound similar to the tone of his basses, if you were to automate an EQ to give more movement, distort, resample, and tweak around the operator values and harmonic settings, as well as automating the pitch in notes, you would get pretty damn close. I just made this to give people a guideline.

Maybe its just me but I just don't see it happening. That being said, I got my copy in the mail and I'm loving the potential of this synth.

People who are worried about FM8 being over used................

I wouldn't be worried about FM8 being rinsed like massive.
at the end of the day, it doesn't matter how many amazing sounds you can make with a synth, if you can't write, create and produce a decent overall tune, you aint getting anywhere.

the glove has been thrown, its too late now. soon we will have to pick sides.

anyway... while the sound itself is decent most of the work is done by Fm8`s effects and it doesnt really use FM synthesis that much. You could use massive`s osc section before those fm8 effects and you would get a similar result. IMO There`s nothing fm specific about this, its just a way to get this sound in FM8.
