+ Zed Bias aka Maddslinky +

Pioneer of UK Garage and Broken Beat, sonic scientist supreme, top class DJ, studio don...Dave Jones aka Zed Bias aka Maddslinky aka too many others is a true grandaddy of UK electronic music. Hip-hop, neo soul, house, garage, bruk and dubstep, he's dipped his finger into each of these pies with pleasingly consistent results. From his 1999 hit "Neighbourhood" through to this summer's dancefloor smash "Dancing" (featuring soul legend Omar), the productions of Zed Bias largely have one thing in common: they are designed to make you twist and jump. His new album drops in September on the ace Tru Thoughts, and we can also expect super fresh future funk coming via the hip Swamp81 - we look forward to his Scottish debut behind the Departure Lounge decks.

+ Federation of The Disco Pimp +

Providing unstoppable grooves since 2005, Federation of the Disco Pimp are Scotland’s premier exponent of modern, raw funk music. Coming out of Glasgow, they combine elements of old-school funk, disco, psychedelic and jazz, this 7-piece band have been smashing it at gigs across the country, and came to our attention somewhat like the slap of a wet trout when we caught them at Kelburn Castle back in May. Unlike your standard funk-by-numbers cover bands these guys have the “funk” in their souls, and bash out seamless sets of high-intensity black groove music in the manner of some of the finest bands we’ve seen. The solid drum/bass backbone is complemented by tight-as-you-like horn section and virtuoso keys and guitar as they mix scorching original compositions with well chosen covers by the likes of James Brown (of course), Herbie Hancock and Quincy Jones. The ideal choice to warm the floor up for Mr Bias.
