Recommendations for Mixer?

So I'm in need of a mixer, but I don't really know how to compare and what makes one good/bad. My main utility will be mixing my tracks straight out of Ableton. I will be using little to no cd's at all. Preferably not. Could someone give me some ideas or recommendations to start looking at, or at least describe some specific functions to be on the lookout for when purchasing a mixer? Thanks

There is a big difference between ableton, which would require midi, and Djing, which would require a mixer. I think you need to learn what you need before you ask for advice on what model to buy.

Maybe I worded that wrong. I want to virtually mix my tracks from Ableton. And this would require a mixer, yes? Send tracks to corresponding channels? I thought this would be the same concept.

No man, a MIXER mixes signals outboard, from multiple audio sources. has nothing to do with your pc.

A MIDI CONTROLLER controls the knobs and faders on your computer.

Very big difference. Like I said, you should probably look into this more before you run out and spend cash.

you probably need a rane :9

no, but really you could accomplish what you're talking about by assigning your master a/b (fader?) to a midi controller like korg nanokontrol. $30 new. you still couldn't cue in your headphones though.

Ableton 'djing' works on a sync-system called 'warping'...

They dont need to cue essentially, beatmatching isnt done with a pitch fader, and you have access to pre-meters to judge your signals rms/match gains.

i think what your looking for is a control surface. the nanokontrol is super cheap and I've had pretty good experience with the nano products. the faders are kind of small, but it should do the job just fine.
