You're talking about the lead that starts out at the very beginning right? I'd just use any synth that has an arpeggiator and set it to a saw wave with a really short attack, play some chords, and set the arpeggiator so it cuts the notes really short. There's a lot more going on in that synth, but that would be a good starting point. what daw are you using/ do you have any vst's? You're going to need something with an arpeggiator to do that.

alright well i didn't try too hard and I'm not that great with coming up with patches by ear, but the majoirty of softsynths out there should be able to do this... I just used 2 square wave oscillators detuned against each other with the high end rolled off, with a modulated low pass filter on it (just a little bit), and then some white noise. i put some reverb on it and it sounds pretty close. The pitch changing effect that sounds like someone touching a reel-to-reel tape deck could just be done with the pitch wheel on any midi controller. If you tell me what software/plugins you're using I might be able to help a little bit more.
by the way, he's also using some jazz chords for that pad, which is a big part of the effect.
