Re: Brostep boundaries
i wouldnt consider the first to be brostep. maybe sistep at best. but idk it just seems mellow with a nice funky grove.
but then good point i cant stop is full of melodies and not really midrange cack. i think that people just label it brostep because most of flux's songs are..
thats my theory anyways.

Re: Brostep boundaries
bro = short for brother, also used to refer to friends. now turned into a word characterizing guys or friends that may be a part of a cliche such as the harder dubstep etc etczerbaman wrote:sistep?

sis = short for sister...yeah you get the idea. the first song is by illesha right?
peww over head or are you being smart?
Re: Brostep boundaries
I assumed that. Reckon that's a pretty strange separation lol, it doesn't really describe style. She collabed with Antiserum, who I believe is male?
Does that change anything?

your question aside :
I can't stop : full of melodies? no. No midrange cack? No, only midrange cack (midrange doesn't have to be robotfucknoizes per sé (haha)).
I must be from another planet. At any rate, both these tunes are wank.

Re: Brostep boundaries
Brostep (at least the way I use the term) isn't a genre, its just a term of convenience for lumping all of 'those' artists together. I know a lot of people detest the word, but if it wasn't for that it'd be another word. If you want to refer to the whole Doctor P/Skrillex/Excision group without having to actually explain what you mean each time, you just say brostep and people know what you mean. I wouldn't say it has exclusive musical conventions at all, but like I said it isn't a genre, just a classification. So yeah, there's no real 'boundary' or whatever, it just is what it is
Re: Brostep boundaries
first tune sounds pretty purple aka someone listened to joker a bit too much
and yes, "i can't stop" is brostep. it's not funky or groovy or dark/menacing or meditative/chilled, it's not atmospheric or anything.
it's just anthemic brock-out music for people on ecstasy. like happy hardcore or trance or whatever.
brostep isn't only about the midrange cack, it's about vibes that are the opposite of what dubstep used to be about.
thats why people felt the need to give it a separate name in the first place.

Re: Brostep boundaries
that flux track was pure brostep, the other one sounded more 'purple' to me but with a bit of wobble

Re: Brostep boundaries
Antiserum is great and has had his own style since day one
his sound design is top notch
granted this tune is edgy... but don't try to pidgeon hole an awesome producer for some brostep arguement sake

I Can't Stop - BIG TUNE!
Re: Brostep boundaries
What defines the flux track as brostep? Its a whole lot better than the typical brostep IMO. Theres melody, feeling/emotion, a bit of atmosphere...
Another thing to remember is that just because a track is more active, synths are louder and more harmonically rich, drums are punchier, etc...doesn't make it a bad track at all.

Just words...if you like you like it, if you don't you don't

Re: Brostep boundaries
blah blah blah (rant about how much brostep sucks and how it takes no talent whatsoever to create and how "deep" stuff is all so creative and there's absolutely no repetition of sounds and how it's all so different and every song is more poignant then the death of a loved one.) Listen to what you like and stop thinking your taste in music is so much better than everybody elses... I promise you, you're not that important. (but then again, neither am I)flood wrote:took the words right out of my mouth.joeki wrote: I can't stop : full of melodies? no. No midrange cack?
