:o

Could be an error in the measurements, but this is pretty amazing.

Will re-read my copy of relativity when I get home and comment further.

I'm currently reading:
Image

It's fascinating.. amazing how often anomalous results get conveniently "forgotten" in order to make proofs seem more reliable (especially by Einstein, it would seem!). This must have really caused someone to panic if they're happy to go public with it and not just chalk it down to a bad run.

Technological achievement makes it easy to accept our current understanding of physics as total, but we really are only scratching the surface... circling in a little bit more, but waaaaay off the bullseye... it wouldn't shock me to see another revolution at least as big as Einstein or Newton... I just hope it's within our lifetime!

I can't even be bothered to point out how stupid these post are.

im not even a stoner. you only doubt me for one of two reasons, which one i have not yet decided:

1. you enjoy your comfortable life of not questioning any boundaries or limits, and are happy to live by the rules that are given.
2. you exist solely as my inner doubt, your mocking post is set in place by myself, to question my beliefs.

you could probably catch me off-guard with a lot of my thoughts, as i myself havnt yet concluded in what i believe in
but im getting there and its essentially a process of realisation and fabricating that into what is existence

Mortal, do you know why the speed of light is set as the speed limit of the universe?

it's not because scientists said it was so, nor is it a boundary or a limit. it's a theory based on countless observations and tests. that's how science works. it's not a faith based operation of "LALALA SPEED OF LIGHT IS THE FASTEST I DONT CARE WHAT YOU SAY LALALA IM NOT LISTENING", if there's one thing that scientists DONT do, it's put themselves in a box

everyone knows Einstein's theory isn't unified, but there sure as hell needs to be more than an anomaly to turn it on its head.

this particle isn't even a tachyon, it's just a normal subatomic particle. this would need to be repeated hundreds of times before it would even come close to turning physics on its head. Saying that something goes faster than the speed of light is like saying something is going more "up" than "straight up" without bending space

99% sure it's mechanical error.

99% sure it's mechanical error, but you never know. they would need some extraordinary evidence.
It says in the article they tested it 15,000 times, CERN have been analysing the data for months and are releasing the data to scientists all over the world before they make any official announcements.

yep, i read it. they tested it 15,000 times.... on the machine they calibrated themselves.

this phenomenon has been around since 2007, i might add, and the laws of physics are still the laws of physics

Honestly, no. It's not something i've really read up on, the same with a lot of science. Essentially, i wouldnt say im an academic.

nor would i say its all a load of crap. its hard to get out exactly what im trying to say as i dont fully understand what im thinking.
But i'll try and write it in a way thats easier to read, and doesnt make me come across as a jackass.

What if its not the limit. We may have many studies and laws to say that YES, it is in fact the limit.
It would have a snowball effect, the more people believing in said theory, the more fortified it becomes, and therefore the harder it is to break free from.
its the same with anything. caveman touches fire, burns himself. caveman 2 looks on and see that touching the fire, causes burning.
this sets the belief, that burning will be the outcome. he touches it, and yes, burn. The belief then becomes stronger, it gets passed on as knowledge
and years and years on, it becomes deep-rooted within the brain. instincts are surely then just outcomes that were gradually fortified, ruling out the possibility of another outcome.
i dont know if what im saying will make sense as you read it...im essentially emptying my head here so it might not read well.
but i think you can get the point im aiming at.

im not telling you to believe me, only sharing my thoughts and how theyve come about.

usually whilst talking about a subject like this i wouldnt used terms and words like 'what if' and 'maybe'
as they are essentially only words of doubt, and therefore result in me doubting myself. but i did that time
as otherwise is comes off as an 'im right, youre wrong' versade. (versade is the wrong word there, cant think of a more suitable one)

anyway, i'll stop there, i find it hard to collect my thoughts and get them out properly on this subject.
however, if youd like to hear more, whether its to pick me apart or out of curiosity as to what the fucks going on in my head,
im more than willing to carry on.

that's not how science works.

science also doesn't take one experiment over nearly a century of research and evidence.

wait for Fermilab's corroboration, that's all we can do.
