Tracklist:

1. V.i.v.e.k - The Big Bang
2. Truth - Stolen Children
3. Cyrus - Manhatten Blues
4. Pinch - Swish

My first serious attempt at a mix. Lemme know what you think. I'm ready for some constructive criticism hehe. Feel free to download it.

I also did a video on this, as I'm thinking about entering this one into the TenMinMix competition:

What turntables+ mixer are you using? Thinking about picking up some as I want to try mixing without using just programs.

I use the Mixtrack Pro. It's a midi controller which means it can control any midi-supporting program on you computer. I use it with Traktor Pro. I bought this one because it was one of the cheapest ones. I don't have lots of money, but really wanted to be able to go and mix on my own instead of only at friends' gear. This, for me, is one of the best ones to buy when you start out. Check youtube on Mixtrack Pro, there are loads of videos explaining stuff about the unit.

So, what did ya think of the mix? ;) hehe. I'm listening to your purple mix right now. Nice mix. Lots of joker. Seen him play here in Groningen. Was a good night.

Great mix, loving the dark tunes the intro was probably my favorite part. I'm in the same situation as you, don't have lots of cash. I'm also still attending classes, and thats the biggest reason. Too bad though, I haven't been able to go to many shows, here in the US, we mainly have the screechy noises playing. It's hard to find a place with some hard hitting sub.

Anyways keep it up, I'll be following you on soundcloud.

Thnx man.

Yeah, I know I'm kinda lucky living in Europe, lots of good dubstep. Though since dubstep is getting some more attention lately, everyone wants to listen to skrillex.. And then I realize I'm also lucky I allready got in touch with dubstep a while back :P

Yea it would be nice living in Europe, any ways I will probably be getting something like that. It is actually in my budget range, is traktor pro hard to get used to? I use audacity to mix tracks, if that helps.

If you're used to mixing with audacity, then yeah, you might wanna take some time getting used to traktor. It's completely different way of mixing. It's actually the way 99% of the dj's on here make their mixes. Not only traktor, but Serato is a program also used a lot.

The way you mix is more cut and paste, take a listen, if its not good enough, you go back in and adjust the tracks. With mixing using a midicontroller (or turntables/CDJ's) it's more about the 'live-skill'. (I just thought that word up :P) So you need to know your tracks to be able to throw them in the mix at the right timing, at the right BPM. Andn then you have to think about balancing the bass/mid/high tones to let the two tracks sound good together.

So it's a big difference, but I think if you start mixing with something like a mixtrack pro, you will never use audacity again ;) Maybe if you recorded a mix and you need to cut the silent bits off of the start and ending, thats where I use audacity for.

Alright, gonna give traktor pro a try. Might as well learn now before I spend money.

Edit:

:u: I don't have a mac. Can it work for Windows?
