ANALOG VS DIGITAL
ANALOG VS DIGITAL
Over the weekend I saw Gaudi http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaudi_(musician) play live analog DUB.
I had the pleasure of chatting with him the next day about his sound, and we got to chatting about DUB.
How DUB started without computers. How Vinyl feels different than Digital.
It's a sensitive subject, everyone has an opinion.
Im on a need to know BASIS, and I NEED TO KNOW, what makes these two listening formats better and worse?

Re: ANALOG VS DIGITAL
I perfer vinyl, something nostalgic about it. Digital lacks the old school element.
In regard to the sound, I would be hard pressed to notice the differance.

Re: ANALOG VS DIGITAL
I don't really notice a difference between analog/digital unless i'm sitting in a quiet room with headphones on focused 100% on the music. One format really isn't better than the other, they're just different.
Re: ANALOG VS DIGITAL
Vinyl used to sound better to me, way back when I was buying/spinning it, but it could have been psychological.
Because, now if I walked into a room/club & never opened my eyes I wouldn’t know the difference.
I can instantly tell the difference between different bit-rates of mp3’s though, but that’s another story for a different thread.

Re: ANALOG VS DIGITAL
vinyl and .wav on a cd,you could only tell the difference if you were really out to notice a difference and you had a trained ear
timecodes reduce the quality of tracks slightly, not noticeable

Re: ANALOG VS DIGITAL
can of worms isn't it ?!
one thing to mention is that fact that stuff that has been pressed usually involves some sort of quality control process... CDRs of really bad productions can be burnt by anyone!

Re: ANALOG VS DIGITAL
My favorite DJ sets have both elements combined. There is something about the ridged sound waves of digital and the smooth round waves of analog, when combined, it sounds freaking awesome!
I've been 2 deck mixing with one turntable and one CDJ, it's fun to have the both worlds at your finger tips!
