Hey guys,

I've been recording lot's of vocals for my new tracks, but the mic i have right now is lacking, and just doesn't capture the sound like I want it to. I'm not suprised, it was $100 (http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/B1Mic) but I was wondering if any of you DIY'ers have used or do use a good vocal mic that is not $5000 +

Thanks! :)

I got a dinky little dynamic mic for 25 bucks that rivals a sm58 for specs, guitar center has some amazing holiday deals if you're willing to wait.

The Sure sm7b is supposedly what Michael Jackson used on Thriller, everybody always want's to use a condenser mic for vocals, sometimes a dynamic mic is the sound your after.

Bluebird is the little baby bottle? right? Both of those mics are amazing, but I think the blue is a bit more than 200... the $200 one is the spark... it's available for $199 online here + shipping and handling http://www.americanmusical.com/BLUE

SM57s are an obvious mention.

The SM7B is like 350-400? You can get great mics for cheaper.

I am actually going to get one of these soon.

They're stupidly sexy looking too!

Personally I would be careful with picking Blue microphones. In my experience they aren't the sort of mics you just put in front of something and get a decent sound out of immediately compared to say an SM57/8, they are very much precision tools. I'm speaking from experience with the higher end (read: more expensive :6: ) models but I imagine this design philosophy flows down to their cheaper mics, of course I could be completely wrong ha ha.

My recommendation is the Sennheiser e 935, no idea how much it costs but it can't be expensive and your clever enough to use Google I'm sure.

Blue's are definitely finicky, you kinda have to develop a relationship with it to use it to it's fullest, especially when you start dealing with bottle caps. Turns 1 mic into 9, and its just downright fun to try them all out to see which fits for your instrument/singers... not cheap at all though. heh.

hey guys, sorry for the delay, been hard at work on my tracks. I've read everything you guys have said and am interested in the bluebird or baby bottle. Read a bunch about them and looked up some videos. Now to get some cash for it :P
