How you know dubstep is now fully mainstream (in the U.S.)

Because its now in Taco Bell commercials!

I know there's no bass involved, but that beat is definitely a takeoff of the dubstep beat.

Dubstep has also been featured in a prominent car commercial (Acura something I believe), and you can hear it working its way into cable TV background muzaks, at least here in the U.S.

ps: the actual food product is much filthier than it looks in the advertisement, and may lead to irritable bowel syndrome, necrosis of the liver and toxic shock syndrome.

I could lay a shit between a few pieces of toilet paper and create something that would be just as tasty and probably more nutritious.

They may taste better on da mainland (where chicken and Mexicans come from), but here in Honolulu they taste like processed cat food with a drizzle of oil and melted cheese whizz.

The beat is definitely dubstep-inspired. It couldn't have existed without dubstep.

So?

Hasnt the history channel played nothing but dnb on every show ever since... forever?

dont panic. dnb isnt pop just because its on modern marvels. dubstep isnt pop just because its on a commercial...

You really think anyones gonna see that and look it up?

Wonder who produced it though...

dnb is more versatile andthe producers making probly dont even realize there making dnb just a catchy tune for a commercial unless its like a Cadillac commercial

i dont think commercials are the metric that defines mainstream. I would look at the increase of dubstep events/shows as a better estimate.

True, but this means that the sound is now securely part of the mainstream, enough to be used in the backdrop of a commercial to be seen by tens of millions of people. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it. I think its kind of exciting, or at least interesting, anyway.

And then there's the Transformers III and Mortal Kombat game soundtracks which sound pretty much like their titles but in dubstep form. I dig it, its the evolution of popular music.

Photek, I used to listen to The Seven Samurai for 24 hours strait once because I wanted to get the groove. Mad respect for Photek and his perfectionistic abilities and samples.

Just saw this the other day. Had to face palm when I saw both the product and the commercial. On second watch it zooms in on people's cheeks blasting in, sort of like the bass cannon video. Also at 0:17 it flashes tabasco on the screen and the BAS is centered on the screen, the only real visible letters. Coincidence? Hell no. I think advertisements are a reasonable way to judge how popular something is. Let's get real, somebody chose that specific generic dubstep beat for a specific reason to put in that commercial, they aren't cheap to create and run. They are trying to appeal to the mass audience by using what is "cool". They didn't put it in because some guy working at the marketing firm for SoCo decided to sneak in a little dubstep, they put it in because this is the sound that some dick's research showed would most likely attract younger people (let's say 18-30, target audience for SoCo tobascco imo) to the drink. I realize this was a long rant as I'm a bit baked, but I guess I'm agreeing dubstep is reaching /arguably has hit mainstream in the US, and the recent use of it in commercials is reasonable proof.
