seems pretty simple to me. we want to be happy because it makes us feel good and comfortable. who wants to feel like shit all the time? so we do whatever it is that will make us happy, even subconsciously...were wired that way. probly started off as a reward system for when we killed prey and got good nutrition and food. except now were advanced to where we have all of these ideas and dreams it takes a lot to make us happy i guess. idk im a lil drunk, was making sense at first but i lost my train of thought hahaAcidmath wrote:Basically, is happyness intrisnically good? Or is it subject dependent?
This gets into an ethical dillema regarding psychological egoism.
Why do we want to be happy?
just rare cases of psychological disorders or peoples neurologic shit being wired diff idk. but my guess is the majority of people and any animal or specie for that matter likes to feel happy. like i said. i think we have happiness as a reward system to keep us moving forward and most of all to stay alive. its a proven fact that sex is the most natural serotonin releasing act, followed by eating chocolate. so i think its pretty clear that we're wired in order to feel good or happy when we do things that keep us alive and well, and comfortable. thats my theory anyway.Acidmath wrote:yeah drunken philisophical discussions can be fun!
But why do we want to feel pleasure and not pain all the time?
Some people enjoy being tortured and being in pain all the time.
It seems as though in those cases, happiness is quite relative to perception.
How can pleasure be free of a subject attaching him or herself to it?
i kinda see where ur going with that. but personally i think your just over thinking it, as i guess you've been trained to do with your philosophy background. imo happiness will always be viewed as good unless the person has a disorder or something.Acidmath wrote:But cant we move forward and accomplish things while being sad or angry?
I get the whole reward system idea; I experience that daily.
But my question is, is if happiness which is a result from pleasure is only valued when experienced, does that mean that if happiness is not veiwed as good in itself, then is happiness an illusionary facade?
I agree. I just had to do a Poli Sci paper on one of his readings too, fuck I hate that guy.Phigure wrote:Fuck Kant
