Physically modify the deadzone on a controller?

So I bought a wired Pro Ex Controller for PS3, and it feels pretty good on the hands, buttons seem responsive, but the analogue sticks have a weak deadzone (have to push the stick more to make it move) compared to the original ps3 controller which has a much smaller deadzone (as soon as I push the stick it responds).

Is there any way to physically modify the deadzone on the controller? I don't care to much about warranty since I bought it for $20 at target, and it's not like they are going to open it and deny me my money back if I try to return it. As long as it's not after 90 days.
I tried google, but it's not liking me this morning. I just keep getting threads on 360 vs Ps3 comparisons.
