Time stretching in logic...

After sretching/compressing a region of audio in logic, it sounds a bit funny, not quite how its supposed to if you know what i mean. what is that? just the fact that the DAW cant handle having to process large amounts of info??

is there any way i can get around this problem?

sorry if thats a bit vague, i dont really come round this way much...! :6:

edit - by time stretching i mean holding alt when making a region longer or shorter...

nothing to do with logic's limitations, it's the limitations of the science behind timestretching without changing pitch. It's done using FFT which is always a compromise between accurate pitch or accurate rhythm. Some other time stretching software might allow you to change the FFT window size which could give a better result but it's probably not going to sound much better than what logic can do.

This is probably a much better answer than mine, but I tried time streatching on a small vocal sample (as thats all i ever use audio for generally) and didnt notice a difference really, so it may be the length / quality of the audio file you're using. Then again, maybe not, im sure there are those more knowledgeable than me here.

Thanks for the holding alt tip by the way, had been streatching using trial and error and many different clicks before =p

In logic 9, hit up flex time. Sounds loads better than their original, and outdated time streching. You can choose various types ala ableton live

this sounds interesting! im only on logic express, i know it doesnt have some of the capabilitys of the full logic versions, is this something i can get hold of??

thanks for the lack of flaming btw people, i feel like a proper noob in the production forum sometimes, alot of it goes over my head..!

dunno about logic express but in logic 8 there's also a few different timestretching algorithms you can choose between. don't have it open at the moment but i think you can choose between them in the time and pitch machine? i'll have to check later and see, but each algorithm has a slightly different sound. you might find better results by playing around with those.
