I´ve just started to write a book about the dubstep scene. Not just because I´m german and a little jealous of your bassmusic scene. Therefore I moved to London to for a few months experience it at first hand.
My main approach is doing interviews, in which I ask people within the "scene" such as producers, fans, label owners etc...Because I think the centre of a music scene are the people and not a journalistics subjective perspective...
I already spoke to people like Loefah, Mala, Cotti, Goth Trad and will be talking to Pinch and some label guys.
And now I am still looking for "normal" people (fans) who are as enthusiastic about the music as me and are going to nights or are just into buying records...
I have been living in London for 3 weeks now and have visited some really good nights. But it´s hard to get people there to talk with you, as you can imagine, because it´s too loud, or they think I want to sell drugs
So if anybody is interested in sharing experiences or has something to say about the music and the scene, feel free to contact me...and we could meet in London, in a café, at your/my place, in a record store, a pub or even before a dubstep night...whatever is good for you...
don´t hesitate, it isn´t about academic talk, I just want to graps all the different perspectives that are existing out there
looking forward to it...
