Who here produces under more than 1 name and what are your reasons for doing so? I am thinking of a new alias to release my ambient/downtempo productions on...

well i am actually against but my label is forcing me to do so, its all about gimpy bloody branding, i just want my music to be released and let people who like it buy it for what it is, rather then the "brand" its labelled under. but apparently in the real world, it doesnt work like that, so for example my dnb productions i m going to release under Q25 alias (Lol yes i no highly imaginative name) whilst my dub productions going to be released under my name. i suppose it makes sense keeping them seperate, but its just a pain in the arse.

I was thinking of keeping all my 'normal' productions under this name and the more abstract/ambient stuff under another name..

haha mate, a label that forces you to change your name is worth shit! a label should be out to support your music, and release it cos they really beleive in it. they shouldnt be getting you to make an alias and shit, thats some fucking pop x factor shit, if a label told me to change my production name id tell them to fuck right off!

well force is a too strong word, and theres a big difference from my dub reggae productions to my dnb tracks, they gave a wordy explanation and im satisfied with their response, i dont really care, as long as my music gets out there, thats all that counts.

yeah i think it's good to keep em different, my dnb/dubstep/house productions are all gonna be under the same name, so all my EDM stuff, but then my more ambient/downtempo/IDM tunes are gonna be released under a new name, albeit on the same soundcloud

I have two, this one and another... I found myself going in 2 really, really opposing directions musically at once, on one hand, I was cranking out alot of semi-cliche bro bangers and starting to seriously pursue more bookings at events what would target that crowd, and on the other hand, i had bought some analog stuff, and was trying to get back to 'the roots of it' and make stuff that was largely sample based, alot more abstract, kinda sounds like an AM radio, wouldnt go down at a club unless it was a reeeally weird club, ect...

So I split. Also, under my other name, I had built up a listener base that wouldnt entirely enjoy my bro'd up stuff, and didnt want to scare them with an abrupt change of opinion like... but still wanted to be able to be me...
