There are simply more interesting releases being put out by these people you call stale than there are forward pushing dubstep releases. That's almost impossible after 10 years isn't it? For me that's plain and simple. House, Funky, Garage, they've all been around since day and it was about time our generation learned to appreciate it (again). I welcome it with open arms.

Also, 50% of new dubstep being put out nowawadays seems to be dark halfstep, perfected by Kryptic Mnds on "One of us" back in 2009. I mean, I see a lot of people voting in the awards for J:Kenzo, Biome, DJ Madd, the Black Box crew et cetera. Granted, these people are doing excellent dubstep but aren't bringing anything new to the table at all. How one could call that progressive is beyond me.
And then it comes down to what you prefer. I enjoy dubstep immensly on the floor, by my inquisitive nature wants different things, genre-crossing things. And that's just happening more in the niche you describe there.
So yeah, I think your completely wrong. But to each their own.
There are only a few names that stand out for me in dubstep who are totally progressive: Old Apparatus and Objekt being two of them. And they also do 120-130 stuff most of the time now..so there you go.

while i do loooove a lot of the new house inspired stuff some of the dubstep producers are doing, i do see your point. im especially a little saddened by what happened to instra:mental. while i do love me some boddika tracks, everything that comes out from him seems to be really samey lately. i guess its just the hardware he's limited to tbh. i'm hoping that when him and convex decide to do collab productions as instra:mental again that they will not follow this same electro path that boddika seems to be on.looking back on unique yet amazing tracks like "watching you" and "vicodin" just makes me wish they'd keep us guessing!

I wouldn't hold out for that. Have you heard 'Pyramid'? I saw Boddika quoted in a magazine as saying that him and Convex decided to move away from dnb after they released 'Watching You' because they knew that they couldn't top it. Fair play to them, I love most of the new stuff they're pushing atm, some very exciting sounds coming from the house/bass/whatever scene these days!

I get you mate, nothing can compare with Vex'd or Headhunter or older Kode9, Appleblim etc. There's still loads of good tunes though, look at the stuff Keysound's pushing for instance. I mostly dislike the hype around this, mainstream artists like Radiohead getting into it (even though it sounds good, I still view it as an attempt to remain relevant to new generations), people marketing dubstep, garage, house whatever as "bass music" and so on. At least there's quality grime being pushed again

I'm not feeling most of this stuff, but then again Mosca's Bax was one of my tunes of the year. I'm not against retro house music, just I find most of it coming from the "bass music" scene is boring. The more interesting suff for me has been sort of at the margins of bass music. Sully, Kuedo and Rustie come to mind for the past few months.
I don't think you could really say that the halfstep/neuro stuff that Youngsta plays is innovative either though, much as I love J:Kenzo, Biome etc. It's just what grabs you right?

I think this is OBVIOUSLY over-simplifying things. For me personally, who never quite had nothing against House - quite the fan tbh - I think some of the best House / Techno / Electro made in the last couple of years was made by producers coming from a Bass / Dubstep / Whatever-You-Wanna-Call-it background, so I'm actually glad it happened.

I do think there's a very superficial very trend-based attitude on most producers shifting from Bass to House/Techno these days and have nothing but love for labels like Black Box - and Clever Box - or Punch Drunk for keeping Dubstep vital and interesting. For me everything goes as long as it's dope and interesting and I wish more labels were a bit more like Hyperdub, without a defined BPM and more focused on the artistry and anti-nothing rhytmically or speed-wise.

i would disagree with this until my face goes blue...although i love the fact people are trying to revitalize the grime sound, trust me, i've been wanting it to happen for ages..imo there's something so soulless or 'thin' about the new sounds coming through. I can't figure out a way to articulate it, but i guess the raw aggression that made grime so exciting (cos people were vex generally) and able to standout in the beginning seems to be sapped out cos that ended up being what turned off people to it cos of the mc's. I don't know, i guess play something like jammer's feedback, footsie and tubz it's war or waifer's fire hydrant and then put on the new stuff and tell me the new stuff doesn't sound watered down in emotion...i'm probs chatting sh1t but i know what i mean in my head, i'm not that great at articulating myself lol




but i'm glad this thread has got some discussion going on, as soon as the op said something negative about swamp 81 I thought there would be no point reading the rest of the thread cos usually people get butthurt if you say anything negative about it. The new 'house' sounds are alrite at i guess, i like some of it but it generally isn't for me. I've always said it seems like a transitional period into a new genre just waiting to be created out of it, but i still believe dubstep has still got something left to give so i'm not bothered either way. However, i will say 'dungeon' is boring me to fukking tears..its getting to point where i can't stand it anymore, doesn't seem creative at all

Yeah, MCs are lacking that fire that grime once had, but you can't say that Roachee, Blacks, Merky Ace, Trim, D Double etc aren't good (talking about recent mixtapes and releases). Not to mention tunes from the Butterz, Oil Gang, Hardrive, No Hats No Hoods camps.
